One trap we all fall into is we think our coach is like the next one. Unfortunately there are not only evolving designs with subtle changes, there were options and features that could be added or deleted based on what the converter wanted.

One of those areas is definitely around the tag axle because of the change in system operating logic that took place along with the optional hydraulic system all taking place around mid nineties model years. It becomes difficult to be 100% sure our comments and advice are accurate. The discussion about the button that is presumed to relate to the tag lift might be something else to add to the confusion because as we know not all conversions use the unmodified Prevost level low system. Some create their own version, some add an aftermarket system designed by others, further making on line discussions subject to inaccuracies.

was my assumption that by 97 they had quit changing the system. Good luck! the book is the best source but prevost will only tell you how it was delivered to the converter. All bets off after that. Not really a good way the tell over internet —only give possibilities. Bob

Bob you are right in 1996 chassis they had done away with that feature, just lifting the tag with air that’s it !!!!!

I only raise tag when turning very tight on hard surface. I do not wait for the drive to recover to ride height. It doesn’t sag enough to worry while turning slow. Makes those 365’s much easier to steer, shortens the turning radius, and like Tom says, makes you feel better, not scrubbing the tag tires as much.

Thanks for all the ideas, I have been sick for the last while and traveling home so haven’t got to check anything yet.I also got home to find the roof on my steel 30 x 50 garage had collapsed under heavy snow load.

Huh. My Vanner Battery Monitor melted down taking two air lines with it and ruined a weekend trip in the bus. I guess my problems are pretty minor compared to Gary’s. I hope you didn’t have too much stuff damaged in the collapse.

I think some of us will be interested to hear how the the situation with the friends Prevost in your collapsed building turns out. Is it covered by insurance? If so, whose? Good luck with that.

    Gary,

These folks had a 20 foot high 50 X 60 steel P model building, priced right, on sale a few week ago . It would accomodate 2 14 X 14 doors plus a walkthrough. Will handle the snowload. Crownsteelbuildings.com

Thanks for info Fred, but I got a quote from Steve last week and forwarded it to my insurance company.

As for my friends Prevost from what I can see all the roof AC,s are smashed and the two fantastic fan’s. Hope to move it out this weekend, right now we are heading for a few days of heavy rain so I’ll wait until the sun shines again.

I know this is an old thread but have a question. When you raise your tag should it come all the way up off the ground. I just had all 8 bags on my 99 XLV Marathon replaced at Prevost Ft. Worth as well as the lift chamber on the driver side of the bus. Also, as someone else has mention my lifting arm was frozen up and bent, so we replaced it as well. The tech told me that on passenger buses that the tag wheels would come off the ground, but on conversion buses it would not come all the way off, but just unload them. My friend has a 2000 H series and said his used to come all the way off the ground, but since Prevost Ft. Worth worked on it recently, his no longer come off the ground. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Mark and Gail,

I have not seen our tag come off of the ground yet, it just releases the air pressure.

While at Prevost Nashville (Goodlettsville), TN, I saw a couple of 2016 XLIII passenger coaches being serviced and their tags raised all the way up, off the ground.

I’ve let our coach idle while I was waiting for check-in and the tag never came off the ground. Not sure how much time it should take, but I’m thinking on our coaches, it’s not meant to be raised all the way.

    Gary,

Most of the 45′ won’t lift, just unload, but I had one that would lift if left long enough on high idle. It takes a long time for the drive bags to bring the rear back up and in most cases the tag will still be on the ground. The 40 footers would raise with no problem.

Mark and Tom thanks for the information. That goes along with what the tech said, I’m not sure that it really needs to come all the way off the ground, but my friend said his did at one time and now does not. I found mine leaked, just because i tried to raise it for the first time in a year, just to see what it would do, now with the new parts, I can say for a fact that mine does not raise off the ground.
