Elkhorn Ridge in Spearfish is our favorite and also offers a discount as a PC Advertiser.

be aware that pretty much everyplace in that coner of SD raises their rates for that event a good week prior to the actual event. almost better tp go out a couple weeks earlier, enjoy the black hills without the crowds and save some money 🙂

but as tom mentioned, elkhorn is a nice place. and i think liberty does a “rally” there during bike week (or they did last year).

Have stayed at Elkhorn and very satisfied. 90 foot concrete pull throughs. Spread out so there is no problem getting in or out with a bus.

My only advice is if you leave your bus during the day bring the awnings in. During the day short gusts just come from knowwhere.

Have stayed at Elkhorn whch is very nice and have also stayed at the Rafter J Bar in Hill City, which we loved. For us it’s a nice central location for motorcycle riding. I understand the KOA in Hill City is nice also. We have also stayed at the KOA in Custer, but it was off season and was not fully opned. I would avoid that one.

I’ve been several times and was going last year but had a lower back operation on the day that we were supposed to leave. We’re planning to go this year. I’ve always stayed at the Lazy JD RV Park between Rapid City and Sturgis. A very nice place. Quiet and I think very reasonable. Really nice folks that turned their cattle farm into an RV park. Long pull-through sites that will even accomodate a trailer without unhooking it. Below is the web address and tell Dennis and Ann that I sent you.

Add these to the map please. Planning a trip to Rushmore in the near future and these hints help.

Rushmore is definitely an item folks have to visit if they have never seen it, but Crazy Horse has to be included to show how will power and determination can create amazing things.

Rushmore was fantastic, Crazy Horse was absolutely amazing.

Crazy Horse is definitely on the list with Rushmore. Never seen either.

Me too on the seeing it done. Who knows, if we act right maybe we’ll get “looking down priviledges”.

I hope that this year I can see some progress since the last time I saw it.

I have done three Sturgis Pilgrimages…… The first was riding a softail custom, new at the time, from California and Back…GAWD…… I remember looking for the rest stops so I could fall and lay on my back, the Nevada and Utah deserts in August are less than fun plus the Buffalo Chip charged us 400 for the week to line up by the hundreds for the few smelly porta potties they had and to sleep in gravel… The next year I cheated, I drug a trailer behind a motorhome and drove the bike in from Eastern Wyoming…still bad. The third, I took my Prevost, left the bike at home, and stayed in Spearfish…pricey but OK. Bottom line, unless you are a dyed in the wool Harley person save your time, your breath and your money. Nothing but a gigantic freak show that does all that it can to MT your wallet.

Truth be known, the area is beautiful, lots to see….just don’t do it when Sturgis is in full bloom…..pricey, crowded and really not worth the effort…just an opinion from one who bought the Tee Shirt!

    You are showing your age………..

My idea of roughing it now is when I have to park on a gravel RV site.

I have kind of become hooked on suite rooms on Crystal Cruises, yes, my age is showing!
