A smart charger is no better than what Dick calls a boat anchor.

What it does is allow an owner to be inattentive. Jeff recommends getting rid of them because he knows owners will turn them on and forget them, or don’t take the time to understand they are only going to charge at some current greater than float.

My wife as I’ve stated before is a regional sales manager for Dometic, so she comes in contact with a lot of leasing companies one of them being Nighttrain in Nashville. Randy helped me out with the problem I had the other day, and his suggestion to me was to use the Dual Pro Charger, that is what they use on the 125 or so coaches they have.

There is a 24 volt charger switch on my coach which I have always left on, I guess that was my bad. The learning curve is steep on these coaches and sometimes it gets in your pocket. I guess I either need to attend the “Know Your Prevost” training or attend a rally or two and pick some brains.

Andre, we all have climbed the very steep learning curve and after 26 years I can assure you the top of the slope is nowhere in sight. As relative newcomers quickly learn a new owner just does not know what he doesn’t know. I did not even know what questions to ask of other owners. Today with access to the internet and PC with its more than 2600 members a new owner willing to take the time to read posts is going to get an introduction to the real world of ownership by reading of issues others experience without having to experience most of the pain themselves.

Life often interferes with learning about ownership. It takes time to digest threads and posts and unless a person is experiencing a problem now, it is difficult to dedicate the time to look at the owner’s manuals not only for the coach and conversion, but also all the devices installed in the coach. It is even more difficult to wade through the posts and threads because the nuggets of wisdom are often few and far between compared to the number of posts, and sometimes are hidden because they are off topic.

But a coach is not a car. An owner needs to know more than how to find the key. The owner that does not realize and appreciate how much he needs to learn is going to find out things the hard and expensive way.

There is no doubt attending the seminar and using that opportunity to mingle with other owners is going to help immensely. The seminars are not intended to creat mechanics out of those attending, but to get you as an owner to understand the basics, see the logic in how the coach is designed, and to better understand the systems.

This platform has definitely schooled me on things I would never have thought of or even imagined. As I’ve said before this is one of the greatest resources to seasoned owners, new owners or anyone desiring to be an owner, it is absolutely invaluable. I’ve tried to digest what I’ve read, which is about 99% of all new post since becoming a member of this great group and still things slip by or like you said they just don’t pertain to me.

I will continue to monitor this forum daily and ask questions, but as we all know something will get me unexpectedly and the only thing I will do is tackle the problem by common sense, looking on the net , or by asking the wonderful people of this forum.

My thanks to all, you should be proud that you offer help so unselfishly.

BTW my check for the next 10 years dues is in the mail, remember it’s snail mail so it might take awhile to get there…….
