I’ve been reading about the “SilverLeaf” VMS products for your coach, including an instrumentation panel you can install to convert your analog gauges or replace the digital instrumentation on a CC. Has anyone replaced their instrumentation panel with a SL and, if so, do you like it and was it worth the money?

T&C, you can look on the POG forum for extensive threads concerning Silver Leaf. Gil Johnson among others have installed them. Everyone I know that has done one likes it. It’s about 10-11K. Having previously owned a 2000 CC XLV with the CC digital dash, we paid pretty close attention in case our dash failed. It never did and we loved that dash. It is a valid concern when considering buying a bus with that dash and should be figured into the price calculation. There are parts available to repair those dashes. Geo.

I don’t have one of the fancy Silverleaf displays, but I do have a basic Silverleaf in my bus, I love it! It’s so much more accurate than the analog gauges. And I love it when people say you can’t get good fuel economy from a two stroke engine too. 😉

    I’ll swim upstream……

Forget Silverleaf. Go to ebay and be patient. Eventually you will find a Nexiq reader with the right software. If you get lucky it will also include software for DDEC, the ABS system and the transmission.

I have no idea why you want to drive down the road and know your turbo outlet temperature or every system pressure but if that is why you are buying a Silverleaf go to the next level and ge the device that can not only diagnose the faults, but you can reset them.

I just pulled the one above for illustrative purposes. It likely does not have the right software. I had $500 in my previous one with the correct DDEC software. I have $1000 in my present one but I have ABS, DDEC V and a couple of other software cartridges with that one. Each bus has a plug in at the dash and the engine.

BTW, replacing the dash is a CC specific issue. I know of no other conversions that will need that.

when Jon posted it made me think of cheap which made me think of ScanGauge. They’re on eBay, I don’t have any experience with the product.

I should add that all later model coaches are likely to have a pro-driver or message center which will display certain information including fault codes.

My concern about creating a dash that gives you readings of everything except how much toilet paper remains on the roll is you can become fixated on often meaningless data. While it is really nice to know certain readings to the degree farenheit or pounds per square inch, the readings we have from typical gauges are more than adequate. When we need to get into specifics is when we get a code or a CEL. Often the message center or pro-driver has that info.

I don’t need to know how much paper is on the roll, but…..Ilike to know there is at least another roll on the bus. Geo.

Good info … my question was more to address “if” I (or someone else) purchased a CC, and the dash goes out I see only two options: Silverleaf or Install the Prevost analog guages. Just not sure the price point would be there to install the Silverleaf over the standard analog guages …

In either case a substantial amount of money will be expended. Before buying a CC it might be best to find out if the original dash is rebuildable, if not the age of the dash, and if that information is not available the probability of needing a replacement and its cost.

The purchase price is likely going to reflect the risk.

    T&C, 10-11K for Silverleaf…4-6K analog. Geo.

Thx for the numbers … and, like most everything, every Prevost becomes a great bargain at the right price point if the current owner wants to part with it badly enough and the known flaws can be accounted for in the purchase price!

I have installed the SilverLeaf dash and love it, loved the CC dash but when it started to go out I quickly learnd that it is run off the PC behind the drivers seat.

Standard type of PC but with some special serial cards that no one supports anymore and runs on Windows 3.1 which is as old as dirt and you can’t get anyone to even talk to you about it.

Yes there are some parts out there that can be bought but I am sure are high dollar and difficult to get installed.

I think Nick Hessler and Miles Circo have various parts for this systme.

The other thing about going to the Prevost analog gauges is the fact that you would have to rebuild your dash because the CC dash assembly was made strictly for the Digital Dash Screen.

A cheaper alternitive is the wirless device and software to install on an iPad that looks like a Digital Dash that Ray Davis manufactured.

I have had his system since the beta testing phase and it works great.

Back then the wirless device was around $8000 and the software was free.

I think Ray can be found on the POG site and don’t know if he took this commercial or not.

Our coach has analog gauges. The oil temp gauge is apparently the trans temp gauge (which is about the only thing on our Liberty conversion that makes little to no sense to me, Frank and Kurt … why don’t you label the gauge what it is!). I would like to know engine oil temp, trans fluid temp, and rear end temp. We will pull a trailer and I would just like the comfort of knowing those temps.

Jon is right about fixating on the gauges and not driving the bus, any pilot will back that up. But being able to see out of norm temps on engine, trans, and rear end would provide me a level of comfort and confidence that I think we should have in our coaches.

Beyond that it would be nice to know outside air temp, temp of the engine battery bay, temp of the house battery bay, and temp of the water bay. But that is icing on the cake. Out of norm temp should tell us that there is a problem before something catastrophic happens.

I don’t know anything about turbo output temps or anything like that, but my Silverleaf gives me the exact data I want that is so flawed on the analog gauges on the dash. I can see my exact oil pressure, my exact engine temp, and so much more that is important while going down the road. What good is a unit that I plug in to read those while stopped? This is not a scanner. That is a completely different tool, with a different use. And I’m not sure why everyone thinks a Silverleaf has to cost $10,000+. I guess if you are one of those folks that has to have the top of the line in everything. My Silverleaf unit was $1800 and gives me total peace of mind that all the important readings from my engine are where they need to be while going down the road. That is not what a scanner offers you at all.

    Dale,

To clarify, does your SL replace your instrumentation panel? Such as, if a CC panel went out, you could spend $1,800 to put in a new one?
