    Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone with Bill Jenson from Prevost. He has read the full Blog and I futher explained my personal situation. I am confident that a resolution will be forthcoming.

    Karl,

Only update at this point is I had another very positive conversation with very Senior People in Prevost. They called me looking for additional information and documentation. I have forwarded them my original work orders/invoice as well as pictures of the parts that came off my bus last week. They are taking it very seriously now and indicated they will be getting back to me as soon as they have it all figured out. I will post the update when I receive it.

I hope my cynicism is unfounded, but I suspect some of us have had meaningful conversation with “senior people” in Prevost and have gotten nowhere.

The difference this time is items I have discussed in the past were not safety related. I would sure like to know when we as owners identify correctly a problem why we get very polite conversation and nothing else.

I think and hope Bill may be on to something. Fingers crossed, Thanks Bill…

    CAC hose solution

Special thanks needs to go to Bill F and Karl L. because this problem has apparently been resolved and awaits a sign off at Prevost, plus an updated CAT base. Both guys kept the topic in the forefront.

Bill Jensen who is retiring at the end of this month, and who is going to be sorely missed relayed the following information.

It is a little confusing and I think I have the numbers correct, but within a short period of time (maybe a couple of weeks) all branches and the parts guys will be up to speed on this hose isse.

First, all hoses specified are going to have the 500 degree rating, including the cold side. So any future hose replacements are going to eliminate any concerns about the hose temperature ratings. That is a huge improvement and is great news. The only thing we all have to be aware of is all hoses are going to be BLUE. That’s right, Volvo has 500 degree hoses and they are blue so once this change goes into effect the color will no longer be used to determine the acceptability of the hose for the application. The part numbers are now going to have the temperature rating so if in doubt check with Prevost parts and they can verify the temperature rating.

It could be confusing to those of you who have had recent hose replacements and got blue hoses. The only key to acceptability is to review your paper work or look for the part number on the hose. Here is information I got from Bill regarding part numbers, but please verify the accuracy with the parts guys if you feel the need to change hoses.

Volvo 70396486, 7039865, and Prevost 531471 are all 500 degree rated hoses. If you have blue hoses on the hot side, if they have any of these numbers you have 500 degree rated hoses. If you have 531469 you have a 350 degree rated hose.

If there is any doubt in your mind regarding the hose rating I would urge you to order replacement 500 degree hoses and just keep them with you in your spare parts bin if you don’t want to change hoses at this time.

Wonderful! I’m glad this had come to a successful conclusion. Did Bill say how they were finally convinced?

Any updates on what got published? Hopefully it got done before Bill left.

Also, I never got an answer to what convinced Bill. Do you know, Jon?

I’m not sure what convinced Bill, but our own Bill F and you Karl stayed on this and presented information that showed it is a problem that needed to be looked into.

As I posted above each of the service centers should have been briefed on this topic so to verify they have the info maybe they need a call. If all hoses, regardless of color are going to be rated at 500 degrees now, mission accomplished.

I have learned if we are sure there is a problem the only way to get Prevost to address the problem is to hang onto it like a dog with a bone. We have a sufficiently large membership to poll our members to see how many others have had an issue and that will provide sufficient evidence a problem exists.

    Karl,

I am still working this. Given the amount of time Jon, You and I have spent on this I am continueing to request that we get something in writing from Prevost that we can post here and Jon or Tom can save somewhere that an owner needing to replace a CAC can print and bring into the service center to avoid going thru what I and many others did. I have been told that I should have someething to Post very soon.

    Great, Bill, thank you.

I actually just called Troy at Liberty and asked about it. He told me that he just assumed that the stock hoses were good enough, so I enlightened him. Also, he told me that Frank wants them to try a CAC from Detroit that has a lifetime warranty. Have you heard of anything about this?

Update for the charge -air-cooler hose issue

The issue was that there were many concerns about the hoses that were installed on a replacement charge-air-cooler (CAC) at our service centers and in the parts sent to customers who were having the replacement done elsewhere. There was no temperature specification listed for the replacement hoses. Customers seeking replacement hoses at truck stores were told that the blue hoses were low temperature in their world and the red hoses were high temperature hoses. This led to confusion when the CAC was replaced and a blue hose installed at the turbo outlet pipe and the inlet to the CAC. In some cases a red hose was installed at the outlet of the CAC and the inlet to the intake manifold. This appeared to the customers to be a reversal of where they should be installed. But the service centers were told that this was what our parts book called for in that particular place. Thus we had a lot of confusion and questions. In some cases there was a subsequent hose failure of the hose coming off the turbo pipe.

Prevost looked into the hose issue and decided to do the following:

First, verify that WB04-04 was done on your vehicle as its purpose was two-fold. It was put out to compensate for the additional temperature created by EGR engines but also the additional pressure. So some hoses were changed to a longer hose to accomodate double clamps on each end of the hose. The hoses were also to handle the higher temperatures. If your vehicle was built before the bulletin and the EGR engines or after the range of the warranty bulletin, then you should have the correct hoses installed with the building of the origianl shell.

Secondly, all the hoses shown in the Catbase parts catalogue that were determined to be “low temperature hoses” will be removed from supplies and the catalogue. All the hoses used will be “high temperature” hoses. These hoses will be used in all places for hoses in charge air cooler installations: thus a high temperature hose for all the connections to eliminate a possible switch. All hoses used in these areas will be listed with their temperature rating: 500 degrees F + in the Catbase files. Part numbers for the hoses may be different but all will be constructed of the higher temperature hose. All Prevost hoses wil be BLUE in color but made to meet the 500 degrees F + specification.

All these things should eliminate any hose issues on the CAC and its replacement. This information was passed to the Prevost service and parts centers at the end of 2015. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kevin Laughlin (1-817-271-3124) or Maurice Gagne (1-418-558-2793).

The above is copied from your above post. I do not want to start WW III, but why would Prevost use the blue color when your telling us they would be made to 500 degrees F+ specification, which in fact is industry standards for cold side ?

I can not find any manufacture which offers a outside blue color CAC hose meeting 500 deg. rating.

    Thank You,
