Scumbag Update
Many of you may remember a while back I posted that keeping bad people off the site was a full time job. At the time we were getting bogus registrations from China (mostly), eastern Europe and a few other locations at the rate of 3 bad guys for every 1 legitimate member.
Tom and I viewed every registration and then looked up the IP address to validate the registration. Some were questionable despite a US IP address so I would Google the street address and would delete those that appeared to make no sense like a vacant lot in a bad location, or the middle of the wilderness in Idaho. Some were businesses likely to try to promote themselves on the forum selling items of questionable value such as adult toys (not kidding).
Two got by us and did manage to make posts. We deleted the posts and the member.
I am sure some legitimate members got rejected because they had a phony address, or they had a foreign IP address although they lived here in the US and actually had a coach. Before rejecting questionable memberships I would email the applicant to see if they were real. Some were. Most never responded.
But for whatever reason we have turned the corner. Now we have about 9 or 10 real registrations for every one that is bogus. Wouldn’t it be nice if we never got any phony registrations.
The reason this is significant is because our membership has grown by leaps and bounds. We have a major milestone coming up very soon and when it arrives Tom and I are going to brag about it. Our growth has been fantastic and the quality of our members, their posts, their expertise, and their enthusiasm for Prevost conversions is unmatched. We all have a lot to be proud of.
