I use a venturi nozzle on the end of the hose. Just put the plastic tubing in the bleach container, turn on the water and it will pull the bleach into the tank. It only takes a few seconds to get a cup. Don’t over do it.

Do you have a dump on your tanks? Have dumps on both Bottle water and House water tanks. 1 pump for either. 2 water pumps total. Mine was rigged with suctions on both also. Use Pumps to pull out of a 5 gallon water bottle or whatever bottle you want to. Bottle water is just for ice makers and instant hot system on kitchen sink. I would think all converters would have a way to totally dump water tanks for fresh water refill. Maybe not.

Sammy, you may want to remove the filter elements from any inline water filters before sucking bleach through them, or replace them after the treatment. To sanitize the fresh water tank I remove the filter closest to the water tank, take out the filter element, add bleach to the bowl and then re-attach the bowl without the element in place. I then fill the tank as normal. That way I know exactly how much bleach went in and I know it did not mess up my filtration system. You can also use this method to add the powdered fresh water taste conditioner stuff they sell at CW, which I find pretty helpful to eliminate any musty taste or odor every third or fourth tank fill. Put the filter element back before you start adding water for your rinse and refills. Note that my method does not treat the supply hose, which I suppose could need bleach now and again, but has not been a problem for me.

Thanks Brian for the idea. I had not thought about using the filter but you are right as it would not sanitize my hose. I plan to install a new filter after the process anyway.

Glens-I have a dump valve on the fresh water tank and a Mach 5 pump. I do not have a bottled water tank.

When I got this Marathon, I sanitized the water system before leaving Oregon. I have 3 filters, whole house, ice maker line and refrigerator. I sanitized leaving all filters in place and when done, then installed all new filters. Marathon has a gravity fill (sorry Liberty boy’s) and made adding bleach real easy. Here’s how I did it:

1. Filled water tank and added 3 cups of bleach

2. Let set for 1 hour

3. Opened all faucets and ran water until smelling bleach including fridge

4. Let stand for about a half hour

5. Drained water tank and filled with fresh

6. Ran water until bleach smell was gone

7. Drained and filled tank again

8. Changed out all filters and flushed

Good to go and we drink our fridge water.

On a side note, some one give me some ideas as to why most converters with a gray and black tank make the black tank so large.

At two quarts per flush for my Microphor I could stay a month or so before dumping. I would much rather have had half that capacity in my gray tank. Thoughts, I need educating.

If you had a Liberty (which also has gravity fill as well as auto-fill or provisions to use city water) you would have a single tank with a gray water by-pass and then the tank capacity ration would not be an issue.

We have a tecma and I would guess it uses a gallon or more each flush… I have 5 (3 girls) on board and we pretty much dump every day or every other day at the most. I pretty much keep black and grey closed all the time so I have enough grey to flush when I dump the black…

In our case our tanks see about right… my grey is most often at 90% when the black is right around 75%-80%

We have had great luck with the tecma but it uses a lot of water relative to our gravity drop on our previous Newmar…

Our 2000 Liberty has a large Diameter fresh water tank dump valve on it. The Indoor Storage we use is instructed to drain the existing water out prior to re-filling with fresh water. I assumed they were doing it on a regular basis. Recently I decided to open the drain valve on a trip. About a coffee can full of sand and other debris dumped out on the ground. So just because you write instructions down, don’t assume it gets done. Do it yourself and often.

I sanitize my water system annually or more often if necessary.

I add about 2 1/2 cups of Chlorox to the water tank. The tank has to be full. Ideally I slosh the tank contents by driving, or get the turbulence by adding water to fill it to overflow.

Then I open faucets until I smell Chlorine. Hot and cold. I flush the toilet. I run the shower. I do not draw any water through the RO system. I do not run the washing machine just because I am lazy.

Then I allow the water with chlorine to remain in all the water lines for at least an hour. I have no clue if it should be more or less. After letting the water sit I drain everything with the pump off, all faucets open, and the HW tank drain open as well as the holding tank.. I change to new whole house filters and use the charcoal kind of filter elements.

Then I refill the entire system, and after filling I flow water through all faucets, the toilet, etc. I do not know if I have killed all the germs or made a difference, but it makes me feel good to do what i do.
