Rare H3-40
Parked at Prevost-Dallas service center a Marathon H3-40 with OTR.
Count the bay doors only 4 and one to OTR (over the road air)
As all H-45 have lift off fenders this bus has 3 lockers above the rear wheels. Note where the docking light is mounted between axles.
Another locker above steer axle
2 more lockers above rear wheels. side pipes in front of drive axle, round exhaust pipe
The converter was Marathon. The bus is really in excellent shape, nice looking with upgraded paint and graphics…. owner has taken really good care of his rare H3-40.

Not unusual to see a 40 H, but with OTR, that’s special.

The H3-40 is going to be a 90-93 or 4. It was just about then that Prevost brought out the H3-41 to accomodate the S60 engine and world trans. None of the H3-41s were built as VIP versions. So this is indeed a rare beauty.
I think it is sweet to go out to my barn and see one every day. We like it a lot.
Ask me about our new entertainment center and interior mods. Hint: I have sourced new Vitricor and Corian to match the interior AND I have done away with the Jenn-Air cooktop in the lower entertainment center. Can you say induction?
BTW, if anyone needs help fixing or replacing their vintage VDO tach or speedo, I have found a repair shop

Our H3-40 Hoffman conversion has Prevost OTR and I like it much better than using the roof air. The compartments over the wheels are called ski bays and are great storage. We have really enjoyed our H3-40!

I think you made a boo boo Big Al, I love it when this happens, you said the 10th digit was a 3 which would mean 2003. If it was a 1993, the 10th digit would be a “P.”

OK-OK….I went back with my glasses on now, recounted to the 10th digit. “0” that makes this bus a 2000.
Tough group…. I’am not getting all bundled up again. It’s chilly outside here in Dallas. Just a 7 year mistake, sorry.

I think you were right with the 1993. If the tenth digit is an alpha O not a 0 then that is 1993. My 1991 is a M.

Marathon usually puts a sticker above vin plate with the Marathon build number.
In this case it’s not there, so we’re back to vin number. Too bad the owner doesn’t know about PC site.
He is getting a lot of press about his bus.

Are there no cosmetic differences to tell if it is a ’93 or a 2000? Headlights/rear lights/grille etc?

Checked again….it shows 10 digit is alpha “0”. Shop guy’s tell me engine is 8V92.

Big Al has been redeemed and has an appointment at the eye doctor.

Something does not add up. The model year digit is unlikely to be an 0 if it has an 8V92. Especially if it is 40 feet and not 41. My guess is an M or maybe P?
