Radius Rod question
Since we are headed to Branson MO in a couple of months and
stopping in Nashville, I thought I would get the 3 axle alignment. The upper
passenger side radius is not on our 1991 H340 and I was wondering if this is
common. The parts manual call for 4 of these same part numbers but our looks as
if it has never had the upper passenger side. There are no supports for this
rod on the coach as well.I first noticed this rod was missing a few years ago when
replacing the air bags and noticed that the plates for this bag did not line up
making the bag look funny. In other words the bottom plate was slightly closer
to the front of the coach than the top. The coach drives good but it looks like
the caster would be off if that rod is supposed to be there.If anyone with this vintage H340 could look to see if theirs
has one that might help. -

Hey Tom,
I will be going over to the bus barn today and will check to see if I have one on the upper passenger side. Seems like there SHOULD be four.Stand by.

We’ll you are right. There are two radius rods (I call them trailing arms) on each side; an upper and a lower.
I did check the Prevost Cat view parts list and found that they listed an arm way down at the bottom of the parts list for front suspension that indicates it is for VIP models only. Do you know if your coach had started out to be a seated coach originally but ended up a VIP? Don’t laugh, I am in touch with another H3-40 owner whose coach has exactly that provenance. It creates some parts dicrepancies and head scratching.
Anyway, hope this helps a litlle. Let me know what you find out.
BTW, remember that when I access Cat view I use my VIN which may not be right for your coach”s parts……! -
Thanks Chuck for the info. Mine did start as a VIP since I have the original owner build sheet from Prevost. The parts manual I have also list the 4 arms. I suppose I should call Prevost service and see what they have to say.

Why would there be a difference between those two types of coaches? Aren’t the suspensions are essentially the same?

The parts manual for my coach calls for 4 of the same rods for both Bus and VIP. Chuck’s coach is 2 years newer than mine so they may have made that change for a seated coach.

My parts list shows (4) p/n130165 Rod Assy, 39 3/4″ CC also.
I also found p/n 212022 kit, retrofit/ reverse front radius rod/on V.I.P. only. Model VIP-40. Qty. 1 (not shown).

That’s interesting my parts manual says part #130615 and is 26 1/2″ C/C?? I definitely need to call Prevost.

I wonder if the coach was ever aligned by Prevost, and if so how a missing radius rod could have gotten by the technician.
The caster on our coaches is very critical to its handling characteristics, especially on the solid axle coaches.

I am hoping the Prevost will give me the service records so I can find out if they have aligned it before. We are the third owners of the coach. The original lived in Sarasota, FL and the second in Brigantine, NJ so both would have had access to Prevost service centers. Hopefully I can find out something.
Both previous owner are deceased. -

Oops, my mistake. I misread. Your 26 1/2″ CC length is correct.

I talked with the alignment tech at Prevost Nashville this morning. He told me that a lot of the H3s and XLs did not have the upper passenger side radius rod on the front axle and the fact it was missing the supports as well indicated it left the factory that way. He said it had to have both the lower rods but needed only one upper and would not effect the alignment.

OK, if they say so. Just seems curious to me.
