  • Progressive Surge Protecter – Warranty – Crap

Posted by Archived on March 2, 2018 at 6:53 pm

So you bought your 50 amp surge protector from Progressive Industries thinking you had a lifetime warranty. We’ll sort of, it does have a warranty, but you must provide the sales receipt. I’ve had 2 of them for years, fat chance of finding the sales receipt, so I’m SOL. So if you don’t have a sales receipt and it gets fried, you get no support.

Here’s the response from Christina at Progressive:

We appreciate your support of our products and thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your warranty claim. We offer an industry leading Limited Lifetime Warranty on all of our surge protection products.

Upon further analysis of your claim, we are unable to process your request for the following reasons:

    No proof of purchase

I’m going to take a wild guess that Progressive’s lifetime warranty is for the original owner and the proof of purchase is to document it was purchased from an authorized dealer/re-seller and not from a third party.

My bus’s power cord experienced a scorching issue while plugged into a pole at Marathon and the Progressive surge protector did its job. I sent it back to Progressive along with the Amazon receipt and received a replacement within a week. The replacement was refurbished, but packaged like new.

What about the place where the bad power came from? Do they have any responsibility for providing a bad power source at Marathon or an RV park?

In my specific situation, I paid for a replacement plug and it was highly recommended I replace the power cord. I took their advice.

    Tom,

Like Andy, I purchased mine off Amazon. Last year when a lightening strike took mine out, I just sent them the receipt off of Amazon. All I had to pay for was to ship my old one to them, and they sent me a refurbished one in a box. Works like a charm.

Did you purchase directly from them or through a third-party? Credit Card receipt?

If you’re lucky enough to have a receipt they don’t want them back, they send a new one and you throw away the bad one, at least that what they told me. I’ve had them for years, one probably with a 3rd party the other I think I bought new at Parliament with cash. I know, you’re thinking read the warranty, only Jon does that.

So the deal that I got from a third party was not such a deal after all ? Add that to the live and learn column !

    Tom,

They had me send in my old one, which is why I had to pay s for shipping. They said they refurbish any units sent in to them, usually a burned out circuit, etc.

I bought the surgeguard. It failed just inside the 1 year warranty. They replaced it but the replacement also failed. If the power goes off the unit (both) would not restore power when it came back on. This also occurred upon connection at a campground.

i gave up and don’t use one.

the lifetime warranty is a better deal, if you keep receipts.

I feel like it’s a bit of a cop out to require the receipt – or to only warrant your product to the first owner.

One positive note is that if it gets stolen and then craps out they are not going to get repaired under warranty.

I see the coach has a Maverick MTS 20K ATS box and it does have some kind of protection built in to it. 1 of Barry Beams tips is the ATS box has a Diversifed CR2 relay inside of it with low and hi volt cut off settings on it, any thoughts? It’s working fine.

Scorching issues as shown in the pictures above are typically caused by increased resistance which then heats the connection. A loose or corroded terminal in the plug or the socket is the most likely cause.
