Please give me your opinion
Posted by dan on June 7, 2023 at 6:01 pmIf I were to drive our potential 1997 Prevost XL ( Liberty), currently 140K miles, 5,000 miles per year, how much would you set aside to budget for annual repairs? Thank you

It depends on its starting point?
And who’s gonna do the labor? You or
-
10k for repairs/maintenance and another 10k for upgrades/enhancements.

Unless, of course, it already needs tires (7 years max from date on tires), air bags, Norgren valves, all fan belts, aux air compressor, bushings, brake pads, generator work and on and on.

Thanks, no, I will not do the labor, I am still working and frankly, I am not qualified. Cleaning, detailing, yes, mechanics, nope!
Here is my starting point on the coach in my focus:

So, would 10K per year for the next several years be a safe stimate? It is an XL chassis.

$10k sounds okay as long as the engine, tranny, differential, generator don’t self destruct on ya.
Sounds pretty good, but its an old complicated piece of machinery that requires more and more mx with each passing yr. When you say “new” is that 10 yrs ago new or the last 5 yrs new? Your gonna want Matthew the Valentine LED headlights setups https://www.prevostledupgrade.com/ right away = $2k. And where are the service providers located relative to you for the Prevost chassis and the Liberty conversion? Local or long distance? Will you have to drive/tow it a long distance to get it fixed.
Good luck

Thanks Don, I live in SW Florida, so i think Prevost has a facility near Orlando, so 3 or so hours away.
Does anyone know a mobile RV tech that can survey a coach for me near Dayton Ohio? I think that would be the best way to get a real health assessment of the Coach I am considering.
Liberty is in Stuart Florida, also 1/2 days drive, so not close but not terribly far.
Condition is everything for me so i am trying to find that coach that got fanatical care, so that my ownership experience, one our first coach is as positive as possible, not perfect, but as good as can be by me making smart decision, rather than an emotional one.
Don, great advice on the lights, I have already e mailed him for info, many thanks, and advice welcomed!

A deal breaker for me with any vehicle I’m considering buying is if it has rust/corrosion (spent time driving where they salt the roads). The lower skin, super structure, and caps don’t rust/corrode but the rest (supersion, etc, etc, etc) does. I’ve owned a lot of MHs and have seen a lot. To some people rust/corrosion is normal. It doesn’t have to be.

I live an hour from dayton, Ohio.
My bus is going through 25 years of maintenance in 6 months in my back yard.
I assume its listed for sale at imperal coach. $5000 would be a safe bet.
-
Thank you very much. Yep, at Imperial, do you have any experience with them?
-
I run from Corrosion, thank you very much. I will bring a creeper!

I do not. They look to have nice units, they were outside of my price range.
are You going to have it inspected or you going yourself?
-
Thanks, I am going myself as well as having a fleet management company inspect it. A company called “The Service Company”, do you know of them? I called the local Prevost qualified service company, “Worldwide Service”, they were not impressive on the phone sadly.
