  • PC Mission to Nashville

Posted by Archived on April 15, 2018 at 11:29 am

Sometimes I have to take on for the team and Friday was my day. 380 miles, 5 pee stops, 1 was mine, a buffet visit where my sneakers stuck to the floor and 6 hours of hearing you stupid jackass get out of my way. I did get a break from the Lennon Sisters and listened to 60’s music, even though it was hard to hear because of the the driver singing, yelling at the jackasses in front and beside him while saluting with the single digit.

I did get a chance to drive the rocket ship, Jon’s new ZO6 with 650 horsepower and more bells and whistles than a space shuttle. He gave me 30 miles and said get out, you drive like an old person. I can tell you it’s the fasted thing I have ever driven, but he’s fresh out of Corvette school and ready at any minute to be challenged. 4th gear, rolling about 50 and he told me to nail it, OMG 100 comes that quick.

Rather than bore you anymore, here was the average 62 mph for 6 hours.

Matching shirts in Prevost blue. Nice touch. They remind me of Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne … The High Flyers. True legends.

As usual I have to defend myself. The 80 shown in the speedo was kilometers. I am still trying to work up to 100 KPH.

If you look closely you will note the fuel consumption was showing 24 MPG, something you cannot reach at high speeds.

Tom is like me. I’m afraid to stamp on the gas pedal because it scares me because of the noise. I cannot hear the Lennon sisters when it makes noise so I drive real slow.

It looks to me more like Sonny and Cher singing “I got you Babe”!

Cmon guys………you know Tom photoshopped that photo. I was not doing 80 MPH. No way. look at the tach……..it was only showing 1600 RPM. That’s just a fast idle and is only 100 RPM more than I do in the bus.

As to the blue shirts…….we call each other in the morning to see what each of us will wear. We have matched wardrobes.

Tom , if the old curmudgen only drives 60 why is he in the left lane.

I usually cuss people who drive slow in the left lane !!!!!!!

Why not matching Corvette red knit shirts with Team PC embroidered on them.

Could also have rank on them Capt. Jon and PFC Chilcote

Tom, did you feel like your were the navigator in the Baja 1000 race.

With 650 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm on good aero, it takes nil rpm to do 80.

Jon, the way I see the gages is that you have the cruise set at 80 and it looks like your in 7th gear. Bring it to Bella Terra and lets go have some fun.

Mark, if you bring what you drive in your day job, I will bring the red Chevy economy car assuming we each get plenty of left seat time.

    Buddy,

We were in the left lane because that is where the slow drivers stay in Tennessee.

Now for the rest of the story………..

Tom and I often work to get and keep advertisers and Friday was no exception. We knew we had a day of work ahead of us so we passed a few emails with detailed plans for the day including where we were going to meet, who we would call on, when we would call on these people, etc. As you can imagine Tom had to use that exchange of emails as a means of reminding me to not only bring my flip phone, but to make sure it was turned on.

I arrived at our meeting place on time, with my cell phone turned on.

We hop in the car and away we go with Tom driving. After a few miles of him driving and doing his best to plant my face into the windshield he decides he has to pee so we stop and at that time he wants me to start driving because unlike most drivers he mashes the brakes but uses a feather to apply the gas. He blamed the brakes but I think he is so used to driving automatics he hasn’t learned how to use the brakes with his right foot. He is one of those old drivers who go down the highway with the brake lights on because his left foot is resting on the brakes.

So far all the conversation is about how hard we work on behalf of PC members and maybe a little conversation about the car, especially his braking skills.

When we get back in the car he pulls out his computer and starts to mumble under his breath. Then I see him messing with his ears. When I question what is going on he finally fesses up. He can’t adjust his hearing aids because despite beating me up about my flip phone it turns out he did not bring his phone.

So I have a favor to ask all PC members. Anytime you see Tom ask him if he has his phone with him, and ask if it is turned on. You may have to speak loudly because he needs his phone to hear.
