John Said: “Prevost had refined it to the point that there are virtually no issues. It is the most economical Prevost to drive because of the 12.7L Series 60 that often got 8 mpg.”
What years does that statement include? That to me is really something and if you could elaborate on it a bit more id appreciate it?
Loc, I got a good laugh about hiding your own Easter Eggs… But how many times must you be told to boil them first?

Jon has given this same sermon for many years which you can find on this forum since Day 1. Luckily, I listened when I bought my coach in 2013. My search took a few years until I made a deal. And the deal included an accepted purchase offer with an agreed price including down payment based upon a satisfactory inspection.
I flew cross country to see the coach for the first time. There were no maintenance records. A PDI was done and the final sale price was $60,000 lower than the initial accepted offer. That money was used immediately to have the necessary maintenance done and I drove away in a safe coach.
I still have a grin on my face. Thank you Jon.

Harry, When Prevost started building coaches with the Series 60 it became an entirely different coach. Depending on length it began with a 1994 or 1995 chassis. Unlike the 8V92 that needed some RPMs to come alive the Series 60, especially with the 6 speed transmission came off the line like a dragster. The 8V92 would pull well, but it needed RPMs and motion to really put the power to the ground, but the Series 60 had instant acceleration.
The 8V92 like oil. If it wasn’t dripping it, it was drinking it. Then along comes an engine in the form of the Series 60 that just never used oil. But the real bonus was fuel mileage. An 8V92 was a 5 to 5.5 MPG coach. The same driver with the Series 60 was getting 8 plus MPG. The engine did not sound as sweet, but because it cruised at about 300 to 400 RPM lower for the same speed it was quieter in the coach. And an 8V92 was a 400,000 to 500,000 mile engine before rebuild and a well maintained Series 60 was a million mile engine.

Hi Jon and thank you for the information as well as the 8V92/Series 60 reference. It helps me to put things into context.
My point of confusion however is the bus TB is looking for is a 1999. And you said “Prevost had refined it to the point that there are virtually no issues. It is the most economical Prevost to drive because of the 12.7L Series 60 that often got 8 mpg.”
My question is what years had the 12.7L engine and the chassis that Prevost refined to the point of excellence?

This is a 99 with the D60. Is it different from the ones your referring to that started in 2004 or 2005?

My 04 is 12.7, 03 Chassis no EGR and probably close to end of the 12.7.

Sorry TB, I may have driven us over the cliff! I’ll leave things up to you.

Thanks Davy. I tried to figure a way to blame Tom for the error, but this time it was my brain had failed to engage.

Looked at the coach this morning. No maintenance or any records since the seller bought it 16 years ago from the original owner. He is a don’t fix it if it ain’t broke type of guy. He has replaced a few items (windshields, alternator, service the generator and maybe a few more small items I forget. That is about all he has done to it. No engine service or tranny service since 03. He did say he put synthetic oil in the motor some time ago. It has a full size bed which definitely wont work for us. The double facing couches are not my favorite layout either. Kind of a bummer.

TB,
Everthing is fixable, simply depends on the price you pay.

Have you seen the Country Coach for sale in Auburn, CA? Looks like a nice one.
Check out Craigslist Sacramento, there is a listing for it.

Thanks but I dont think that one is a Prevost conversion. Also Cat powered which my research has me scared of Cats. Im thinking whatever I end up with it will have a D60 or a Cummins and Allison tranny.
