I would recommend not taking I-75 through Detroit. Pick up US 23 (I-475) just south ofToledo and it will take you up on a nice 4 lane freeway by-passing the poor roads and congestion of Detroit. US 23 joins I-75 north of all the mess, near Flint.. It is actually a more direct route.

Bill, Thanks Google routed around Detroit as you describe. Would like to detour Toledo as well but we decided to spent a couple of nights in Monroe, Mi on the way up so the direct route is I-75.

Jon, Yep google has exit 290 which on the sat. view looks ok. I was thinking about exiting sooner to stay on state roads. fewer turns on the google route.

The bypass you describe around Petoskey looked iffy to me on the sat view so I was planning to stay on the highways which will likely add traffic and a few miles.

I’ll wave as I pass your place on Sunday.

    Tom,

I think its your turn to wash my bus when we get to Poteskey (I’m sure Jon did it at Bella Terra). but I took pity on you and waxed it last weekend.

That will guarantee rain for 4 days of driving!

I drove through the area two weeks ago and I’ll agree that taking 23 is a pleasurable route. However, South of Toledo, around Findlay, OH, there’s some construction for eight miles or so that has some tight concrete barriers with less than desirable pavement.

Also note, that as you drive further North into Michigan you’ll notice the absence of large truck stops…so plan your fuel stops.

Andy, You meant 32 not 23?

I did notice on the sat view there was a Marathon with truck islands at the corner of Mi-32 and US-131. Prices are unknown.

Last Loves before Cincy looked to have good prices.

23 looks correct to me, bypasses the Detroit nightmare.

Andy – At Joe’s age it’s easy to turn his numbers around, he’s thinking Michigan instead of 23 starting in Ohio.

We’ll wave as you go by Joe. Tom’s lying. I washed your coach while he supervised. In fact I don’t ever recall seeing him wash any coach, ever, including his own. I think he has people that do that for him.

We are leaving Tuesday so unless you are really slow going north we won’t see you until we get to Petoskey. Please be sure to bring all the rain with you and have it end before we leave. I know for sure I will not be able to get Tom to wash or even help wash my coach.

As Tom stated, 23 is correct.

The fuel stop just South of Petoskey is a Marathon. The address is: 1041 W Main Street in Gaylord. As you can see in the photo, it’s a bit tight and the ingress and egress can be tricky depending on traffic when you exit. The two pumps on the left require a Johnson Oil card to use.

Loves south of Cincy as Andy pointed out is 2.98 less the PC discount makes it 2.88, I’ll be stopping there for sure.

Fueling is a logistical issue. Heading northbound the use of the last northern Love’s in KY on I-75 is certainly the last cheap fuel, but if you are heading southbound on the same route to reach it again to refuel after the rally you need to have about a 1000 mile range on your tanks.

I go through the fueling scenario on every trip and my window is between 700 and 1000 miles. So far on this coach the most I have ever taken at a refuling has been 160 gallons (208 capacity) so my window has worked just fine. I exclusively use Loves because the more fuel flowed through our program the better it will be for PC future fuel discount negotiations.

I do miss our previous coach and its 298 gallon capacity and pre-emissions series 60 which could be counted on for at least 7.5 MPG all day long. My fuel window on that coach was 1800 miles.

I would miss it too Jon. My list of deterrance to a newer bus has this one at the top.

and if called to court I would have to swear on it….

Here I am taking my sweet time heading north on I-75 doing a meager 65mph and who I stubble on blocking the slow lane ….

our own godfather of Prevost. Doing 63 mph.

It took me 5 minutes to pass his 45 ft…

I’ll swear to it — Jon really drives 63 down the interstate.

Now lets hear his side of the story.

    Pictures, where are the pictures??

Surely there are stories, some true, by now.

    Inquiring minds want to know.
