I understand, Tom was concerned for you because he didn’t know how you would get a hold of anybody in the pickle park.

    Hey Al,

I’m not a CB user per se but it sure comes in handy when you are dead stopped on the interstate and wonder what in the world is going on. Sometimes it’s best to get off the interstate and take a side road.

There is not a lot of chatter on the CB’s now-a-days but I hear of the occasional ‘smokey’ located in the median taking pictures. It’s a waste on us since I don’t speed but I do like to know where they are.

It’s also nice to know which lane to be in when entering a construction zone. While driving such a large vehicle, we can make early plans and that’s where the CB comes in handy.

    Safe travels,

Nowadays the CB is far less useful than it was at one time. The language is pretty bad, the content of the discussions you hear is childish, and the range all but discourages its use.

But I still drive with the CB turned on because when it delivers information it becomes a valuable asset. The obvious benefit of a CB is not to learn where the cops are but to be able to anticipate traffic stopped ahead, sometimes allowing enough advance warning to get off the interstate to get around the stopped traffic. It is a great tool to warn a trucker of a failed trailer tire, or for a trucker to warn you of a problem with your toad.

In my case it was a trucker that told me my bus was on fire. As cheap as a CB is for me it becomes one more source of information or an ability to talk to another driver if the need arises. The only downside is if we are on a stretch of highway in proximity with a pair of truckers going our way who dominate the CB with their inane conversation. That is when I usually turn it off.
