    Right or wrong valve?

    1996 LeMirage XL40

I see a reference in the schematic to a Prevost 641357 described as “1 valve, 3 ways 2 pos NC w/spring” which is on the feed for tag lift, which leads me to think that it is the Norgren with a heavier spring than the K91002 not a Norgren K41EA00KS1KA2 but a Norgren #K4EA00KS6KA2.

I am currently under the bus doing the air leak thing and ordering all that I can, thanks in advance, al

The norgren valves are just like a over under system with pilot side telling ii to change and supply side directing the flow. In this case the pilot side has the same supply pressure as all other norgren valves, Why would there be a heavier spring. Prob differant number is in mounting or position of inlet for pilot side. Or just a update. Prob 100 percent wrong but all my 5 port and 3 port are same except inlet on pilot side. My opinion only . Good source is your local Truck brake supply parts house they matched all my valves up to my old

ones at about 2/3 of cost. same name in my case(brand) suggest you use compression fittings when changing air lines. These valves can leak internally with no outside proof. 1 chamber to next. I would replace all I could afford while in rear area. Bob

around that model year they changed where tag lift just took down pressure off tags and not lifting them off ground. Does your coach auto drop suspension when key is turned off?

Thanks Robert, Bus is in the air and I have ordered the 3 -5 ways and the 5 -3 ways from Norgren for $620, all my fittings are already compression. It is the tag valve I refer to that is a 3 way, but is three times the price of the other 3 way valves. The regular three way lists as a 641274 AR valve, 3 ways 2 positions N.C. for $108.29. This valve lists as a 641357 1 Valve, 3 ways, 2 positions N.C. w/spring for $217.97 these are Prevost numbers not Norgren. Considering it is twice the price I suspect something is different about it. No the Coach does not auto drop, however I just spoke to Don and he says that it may auto dump the airbags if the AUX air drops below 30lbs, this may be regulated by this valve? Apparently there was a service Bulletin on it, which may or may not have been done. I should also mention that with the tag in the down position, bags inflated, I am getting pressure to the lift chambers, which leads me to suspect this particular valve.

There should be no air to the lift chambers when the tag is down it may be that valve

Thanks Peter, I think I am going to bite the bullet on that one.

It appears that the Norgren 3 way was superceded by the fancy German valve in the photo. Don’t know exactly why yet but it is quite different. I’m sure the old Norgren 3 way could have been replaced but they changed it for a reason. I’ll keep digging.

For what it’s worth, I recently rebuilt one of my tag axle valves. Norgren has a very good online store and they sell & ship to individuals. They do indeed make a valve in this series with a heavier spring, and that is the one I needed. The site has a good explanation of their numbering system.

I replaced the spool only (rebuild kit) for about $25.

Ted is correct in that rebuilding is a viable option. However if you opt to repair rather than replace it is vital you begin with a valve that has an inner core completely free of corrosion. The surface should be a mirror polish with no pitting or other surface irregularities. When the repair or rebuild is complete the valve should be bench tested for leaks which can occur through the valve, as well as leakage sideways past the O ring at the ends of the spool. The end caps of the valves are not sealed so all leakage has to be controlled by the spool O rings and the inner core of the valve body.

Thanks for the input guys, I am saving the rebuilding for my retirement

I am now positive that the earlier models got the 3 way with the heavier spring, as we pulled some out of my buddies 89 Norgren # K41EA00KS6KA2. However, still wondering if the later models like mine got the regular 3 way K41EA00KS1KA2 which has the KS10026 Number……….anybody?

Our bus is as originally built. I don’t know if these are the same valves that are on your bus.

I don’t know the Prevost part#s. I don’t buy these from Prevost. I buy them from Norgren and/or ebay

The following applies to our bus, a 96 XL 40 Liberty Classic, S-5665, Liberty #331. I don’t know if these are the same valves that are on your bus?

I found the Norgren part#s on the Norgren valves themself.

Ours has four K910026 = K41EA00KS1KA2 – 3port/2way – $58 from Norgren or work your best deal from a guy on ebay selling the K910026.

    Ours has three K910058 = K81EA00KACKAC – 5port/3way – $95 from Norgren or ebay

Ours has two K41EA00KS1KV2 – 3port/2way – $101 from Norgren or ebay. See my recent thread about replacing/rebuilding these

Thanks much Don, I have what I think is a similar coach shell and based the replacement valves on your research, and posts, saved me oodles of time!

Do you recall how you were able to cross reference the K910026 number to the K41EA00KS1KA2?

I stated the application and sent pictures of K910026 to one of the guys(Dillon?, Nick?) that I was on the phone with at Norgrens webstore/IMI-Precision. They identified it as K41EA00KS1KA2. They sell it for $58ea. At the time I bought four new K910026 from an ebay seller for even less $. He must of sold them all because his ebay ad is gone. There is another seller, 2knee, on ebay now that has five of them. He is asking $69 + shipping or best offer?

Thanks, I appreciate the confirmation. The valves arrived today from Norgren. I won’t be back under the bus for a couple of weeks. Al, T-5672

    This bears repeating………..

Please, if anyone gets under a bus, especially if the work involves anything related to the suspension, make certain the bus is well supported at the chassis support points. A Prevost owner was killed when he slid under to make a quick simple repair to a generator exhaust and the bus came down on him. Never take the risk that could happen.

    For Pilot389,

I was, perhaps uniquely, able to read the Norgren part # on the original valve. From that, with the aid of Norgren’s excellent site, it was determined that the valve had the heavier spring.

But then I searched Norgren and found the rebuild kit (spool). Same spool for most, if not all of the valves in that series & size.

May be that other years had only a Prevost p/n on the valve.

100% in agreement with all that Jon said!
