Main belt tensioner replacement
Posted by Walter on May 11, 2020 at 4:45 pmHi All,
I discovered the main alternator belt (that wide serpentine one) was broken. Of course, i don’t know when it broke or did I know why ( I know why now…) which bugs me for certain.
Anyway – I got a new belt, put it on and fired her up – SCREEHY SQUEEEEK!!! So I run back there and sure enough, the tensioner roller is stuck. I run back up and turn her off.
Now, I have the tensioner off – where do you guys recommend is the right place to call and get another at a reasonable cost and quickly (not overnight or anything… )
This thing –
Thanks – in advance all!

I’d start here, but do a search on the internet.

Here is what’s on my bus, DD 60 series. Autozone sells Dayco Products, or amazon and ebay.
The spring loaded tensioner arm w/idler is Dayco#89417 or DD#23533015
The other day I saw on ebay the complete alternator belt tensioner kit #23527060 for $650. Detroit gets $1600 for the same thing.

The part number helped a lot! Thank you! There isn’t any info on the part itself (of course)
180 on Amazon. We’ll see if it’s right. Now…. trying to find another belt. Got the part number… but it’s not as easy…

Don,
You get the award for the best looking engine compartment I’ve seen.
-
I was gonna say the same incredible how clean that engine compartment is, I drive my bus around the block and it picks up a ton of dirt and dust all over the bay. What’s the secret Don
-
Look at the date stamp on that engine photo. It’s from Sept 2018, immediately after I repainted it. Its not that pretty anymore
-
The only thing in my engine compartment that’s gonna look that clean is a belt tensioner and an alternator belt!
-
Don: Post a “today” picture so we can see how its aged. Nice job.
-
My engine compartment looks ok, But Don went all the way, looks awesome, Craig Wickham did a complete job on his also, engine color my paint says Detroit series 60 blue, I don’t know which one is correct?
-
Don: Do you have plans for polishing what looks like a copper fitting and tube coming off the OTR A/C compressor?
-
Dick, Shame on this Liberty owner for not polishing all the copper pipes.
Art, I used
DupliColor Engine Paint #1618. It’s called DD Aspen Green.
I like the way I looks better than the blue.
