  • M & G Brake System

Posted by Archived on April 9, 2015 at 9:13 am

For those of you not familiar with M & G, you should check them out when you need a brake system for your Toad. This is the 3rd one I’ve installed and never any issues. Very simple device that uses brake air pressure from your bus. It fits between the Vacuum Booster and Master Cylinder. Retail is around 600.00. M & G

Bugs in the bumper photo’s are extra…..

Spark plug rubber to keep air fitting clean, must remain open.

    Truk,

I have the system on 2 vehicles and both have been flawless so far. About 8,000 towed miles on the jeep and 2,000 miles on the truck.

I am leaning towards having the M&G system installed in my Honda Accord. The M&G website is fairly clear about the install process on the toad side but I am unsure where they tap into the air brake line at the Prevost side?? In other words how does M&G plumb the air connection to the Prevost braking system?

The line should come from the R12 valve.

We love our M&G system too… if you have the good fortune of being in the area they are wonderful caring people to work with and very reasonable… we were very impressed with them.

    Cheers, Diane

We had the M & G system on our ’07 Honda CR-V and it worked perfectly. When I traded for the ’13, the M & G was a more difficult install as the engine compartment on the ’13 was different. So, we went with the SMI Air Force One which is very similar.

The installer could have put in the M & G but the labor time was twice as long. We went with the SMI and have been happy with the it.

I’m looking for a new toad and will probably go with the M & G first if applicable, then look at other options if it’s not.

I watched as MG tech cut a support bracket and wire tied the brake manifold to hold it in place on my 2010 Jeep Rubicon unlimited. I got home replaced the cut bracket, removed that unit and returned it. Great unit but on many newer cars/ SUVs there is not room for an install without major cutting and modifying. Put in an SMI Air Force One.

I just had an M&G system installed on my 2016 GMC Yukon XL. After consideration of all systems, and using a brake buddy for years on my prior suburban, I went with the M & G for the simplicity of it. My current truck also has the adjustable pedals which has to be a consideration if your truck or car has the same adjustable brake pedals. Most of the other systems have the piston attached to the brake arm with a cable to the firewall. If you move the pedal, it will change the length of the cable, and may not actually move the arm if not returned to it’s adjusted position. Just another thing to worry less about on the towing checklist.

With the M & G, just hook up air hose and the system is armed.

Yes it is not transferrable from truck to truck, but I don’t trade my tow car in for about 10 years anyway.

    It works for me.

We have the M&G system on a 2012 Jeep and a 2013 GMC truck. Both were installed by M&G in Texas and have been flawless. The install was quick and the staff excellent.

I just installed the M&G system on my Jeep Wrangler – it was a little cramped for sure but I was able to do it. There are a few zip ties… but I figure they look OK since I used black ones.

Next is the air line in the bus.

I’ve read a few of the posts about it and am planning on tapping into the air distribution above the tag axel… but wanted to see if anyone could offer a little more info.

How do you get in there to do it? Do I have to take off the Tag wheel? Will I have to jack up the bus? I’ve never realy tried to do anything “under” the bus yet. Was just looking for some advice. I have 2 of the 20 ton bottle jacks.

    Thanks!
