My CC OTR has been really good. I replaced the original 2002 compressor this year. My roof airs may not be as quiet as cruise airs ( I have never had cruise air) but it appeared to me at the seminar in July cruise air repairs occupied a whole lot of Jeff and his staffs time. Someone posted about the noise and heat from cruise air if you are outside which seems more important to me. Like John always says everything is a trade off. For me going down the road during a Texas summer with CC OTR and no roof air ( I do usually run the dash) I can consistently keep the temp below 70 and Becky complaining as she reaches for a blanket. My coach was VERY well cared for before I was fortunate enough to find it and the quality has been excellent. Lastly every CC owner I have met is helpful and the “new” CC has also been helpful when I have called for information.

George, My wife and I also like a cold coach. As far as the noise inside coach from roof airs (which they do have) my wife and I like the background or as some call it white noise in the bedroom for sleeping. I was the one who said cruise airs do produce heat from under coach, and they do. Another plus to roof airs other than cost to replace, is the fact you do not even need anyone on the groung to catch when replacing.

Thanks again all – seems there are multiple good reports about the CC OTR! It may not be Prevost OTR, but sure better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! Big tanks, roof air, simple systems, plenty of batteries – good rigs!

I appreciate you recommending Phil. Others have recommended him as well. Phil and I are in contact and he knows what we want and will let us know when one comes available. Unfortunately, he says they are pretty rare. Having talked with several people that either drive through our lovely AZ climate in the summer, live here, or work on the rigs, they have convinced me I should try to get one with Prevost OTR. So here is what we are waiting for to pop up:

40 ft, Series 60, Prevost OTR, and Private Toilet.

I’ve seen a ’97 Liberty that fit the bill (already sold) so I know they exist :-). We have our current rig set up perectly for us, so we can wait until one comes available. In the mean time, I’ve been reading the old posts and articles to get up to speed.

If anyone knows of one, please let the party know we’re looking and that we could be flexible with when they could let it go.

Kurt, I know this has been said before but if you eliminate the need for a 40 footer and are open to consider a 45 footer your search becomes significantly easier.

Keep digging, a 40 with Prevost OTR and private toilet is a rare commodity, but they are out there.

I’ve only had this one Prevost coach (H3-45) but I’ve got alot of time in motorhomes of all sizes.(Not to mention driving our church bus, an H3-45, many thousands of miles) I can’t say there is NO difference between a 40′ and a 45′ coach…but I will contend that neither is really good for running down to the store! My traveling seems to be from one campground to the next and, by in large, size has really only mattered a very few times. Look at it as sharpening your skills!

We are 65′ feet with the dinghy and I can honestly say I think if I were ONLY 60 it would not make things any easier. Where the 5 feet becomes really apparent is the living space. I don’t know exactly what I would want to give up if I had to get rid of 5 feet from my MH.

Stretch your building— fill up with diesel and hit the road. I don’t think you’ll be sorry—I sure havn’t been!!!!

It appears to me that less than half the extra 5′ in a 45 is in the wheel base, the rest is behind the rear axles. So adding 5′ isn’t adding all the distance to the wheelbase.

Actually, a 45-footer has 35 inches longer wheelbase than an 40-footer, so it’s only two feet more behind the axle.

FWIW, we had a 40 footer from 1990 to 2004. It was replaced with a 45 foot solid axle coach which is the longest turn radius motor home and if the extra length or wheelbase was an issue I never noticed it.

Where I notice the length is my garage was designed for a 40 foot coach and the extra 5 feet is really eating up space I wish I had.

I have owned my 1999 Country Coach since it was new. I have over 230,000 miles on it. It is a non-slide, rivited, XL-40 with IFS. Fuel capacity is 250 gallons and Fresh Water capacity is 147 gallons. I have eight 8-D Lifeline batteries. It has Dash Air, CC OTR Air, and three
Roof Airs. The roof airs are ducted through the entire coach. The CC OTR has
two cooling zones, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom.

Most of my driving is in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and
Nevada during the summer when temps can get up to 120 degrees. I have driven
and camped in some extreme temps., 112 degree days and 85 degree nights. I did
camp in Las Vegas on the asphalt at Circus Circus RV Park the summer it hit 120
degrees +. I also dry camp for up to two weeks at a time in late August in the desert every year.

While driving, I normally only have the Dash Air on and/or the CC OTR Air. If I want the entire
coach cold upon arrival, I will turn on the CC OTR Air shortly before arrival.

Since the Roof Airs are ducted, I can have one, two, or
all three on, it is easy to control how cold it is inside the coach. I normally
only run two Roof Airs when I stop overnight. Driving in extreme heat, I will
use the Dash Air and the CC OTR Air. This easily keeps the coach very cool.

All my bays are clear, since I have roof airs.

Thank you for the informative and highly relevant response! On paper the CCs look like one of the best dry camping rigs for the reasons you’ve stated. In my short time searching, it seems like they may have a higher percentage of private toilets too 🙂

If you don’t mind, since you’ve had your coach since new, I would love to know how the factory support has been for you through the years and of course in current times. I see a lot of similar woodwork, trim, and fixtures that the plastic coaches used, but I know you have quite a few Prevost specific pieces and systems on yours and I’m wondering how well the guys have been able to help your with troubleshooting and/or parts if you needed them. I’ve had good technical trouble shooting guidance from them on my 97 Allure and wonder if you’ve been able to get it as well with your conversion.
