Lobsta Prices
This would have been a good year to have a mini rally in Maine. I just bought 100 lbs right off the dock for 2.75 a lb.!!
I cooked it all up to freeze and enjoy at a later date, like this winter in the south. I must confess the chef did eat 8 or 10
tails while cooking! Yummy!!. I plan on buying another 100 in a few weeks when I have time to cook it up.
If the prices stay low maybe a rally in Maine next summer could be in the cards? Rick

Daaaang, I’m jealous!
If we can get the time I know that Maine is on the want-list for us. Several years ago we were heading that way, but turned out we could only leave for two weeks instead of three. That’s not much more than enough time to get there, turn around, and return from Florida.

Rick………When is the best time. The worst time for us to leave home is in the middle of summer but I want lobstah so bad I can taste it.

The nicest monthes are july and august. September can be cooler but nice also. So it really would be up to those coming.
June is usually buggy and rainer than the other months. Rick

I think we could be convinced to do a Maine trip around or just after Labor Day.

Jon Just after Labor day would be better. Labor day weekend is the last big weekend and would be harder to
book sites. It would also be much quieter and easier to get around the area. Rick

I’m sticking my neck out here because I haven’t discussed this with Di, but count me in. When I factor in the price of diesel it will make the lobstah prices pretty expensive, but it will be worth it.

For those whom may be interested there is a flyin in Greenville every year. It is held the weekend afer Labor Day. Reading the post about the $2.75 lb. lobster gets me think-in. That really sounds like a great mini-rally. So I get on Map Quest and learn it’s only 1550 miles one way from KC.
Now I do some quick math and the price of diesel fuel makes this mini rally no mini deal at all. So I just pass it along to another post and forget the taste of lobster for another time.
Sign on this morning and check a few postings and find you now have posted a picture.

I’ll talk slow so you understand. The Lobstah will cost what the tree cutter says it will cost. So think of a trip to Maine as an opportunity to get lots of cheap Lobstah.
What the diesel fuel cost relates to is smiles per gallon. You bought the bus to drive and enjoy. You like driving the bus. You enjoy seeing this great country. The cost for that enjoyment is you have to buy diesel fuel. You are about to travel to Indy and by the time you get home you will be all smiles because you had a great opportunity to drive the bus and hang with great people (like me). You will be burning diesel fuel and you won’t have a single tail to show for it.
Let me know if you don’t get it.

OK Al……..I know you are a businessman so let me approach the logic of driving all the way to Maine for lobster tails in this manner. It is actually going to save you money. A lot of money.
First you have to recognize your fine coach was very expensive and with each passing year it becomes less valuable. Fact of life proving none of Prevost ownship makes sense. So let’s pretend your depreciation next year is $100,000. Let’s also imagine you were going to drive it 8000 miles next year. The cost of fuel per mile is roughly $.60 and the depreciation per mile is $12.50 so your minimum cost per mile is $13.10.
But wait……..if you drive the 3000 mile round trip to Maine in addition to your already planned 8000 miles your new cost per mile of depreciation is $99 per mile, plus $.60 per mile for diesel fuel for a new total cost per mile of $9.69.
By driving to Maine you actually save $3.41 per mile, times 3000 miles round trip or a savings of $10,230.
In other words, you can afford to buy us all a hundred pounds of lobster tails and still have money left over.
If that don’t convince you, nothin will.
