More work to install unit and remote. Need to find a place to install.
But once it’s in, you’re all set.
The recommended unit is subject to theft.
Up to you.

Thanks. That is the one I am currently looking at. I was unaware of the security cable. That is good to know about since the next post says theft is an issue.

When I said subject to theft, it costs a few hundred dollars, without the security cable someone could quickly pull it, small easy to hide.
If someone did try stealing one in a campground and got caught, there’d be a pretty good beat down behind the dumpsters (so the children couldn’t see it) before law enforcement would be called.

I liked the 50Amp Hard wire in model put it under ATS switch and put the remote screen in the water/sewer/power bay to see it when I plug it in.

The Progessive HW50C is on my to do list too. art, I like your install. Might do the same thing. Thanks for the pics.

Art,
Nice install. I think I will go hard wired. Kinda how I roll.

I think some hard wired installs like Art’s are really good and in some cases might make sense or even be the best choice.
But everything on our coaches seems to be a compromise. I would have to do the installation on mine at the common point between left and right external plugs or my cord reel. So in that case location and space become an issue. But if I did that, and the protector failed it puts me in the position of having to do some wiring in the field to by-pass a failed surge protector. So for now I have a far less elegant separate unit that I have been using for years.
It is not as simple to use as one permanently installed, but if it fails I can either not use it or just run to the internet and order another.
I cannot speak to the reliability of permanently installed units, but in some instances the external plug in type have had a lot of failures discussed on these forums.

Jon,
it might just be me, but my personal experience with 3 motorhomes, all with HW50C’s installed is all positive with no issues. Just lucky, I guess.
