  • Legendary XLII’s

Posted by Jim/Chris on December 7, 2018 at 11:08 pm

we have become interested in Legendary Coaches generally and one in particular kitchen slide coach

can someone describe how the RVac Coleman Units work. We take it there are two separate units

Anyone know the fresh and holding tank capacities

How does one change genset oil without a unit slide tray

In some photos on internet we see a fresh water hose reel. How and where does sewer hose connect

is the gensets radiator on roof

Overall, anyone on forum a current owner How do you like your Legendary

There are several Legendary owners on here including Roger, so hopefully he’ll see this. Also, Mark is a past Legendary owner.

    The C’bus boy’s back to a slide coach, cool….

Truk. Not so fast. Looking, researching doesn’t equal buying. ;-)). Especially where there is no evidence of no see-um rivet patch panel repair. After experiencing panel delam on our 2002 Marathon XLII BACK in 2003 before problem became in vogue, we won’t consider buying an XLII that isn’t fixed.

We do like them though. Just anything about them. Technical stuff

I have a Legendary it’s the only coach I’ve owned so I can’t really compare but I could answer some questions.

One issue I would look at very close would be panel delam.

Generator radiator was indeed on the roof (at least it was on my 2008, coach 1026). The sewer valves are likely electric (Drain Master) and are to the rear of where the hose reel is. They are behind the shiny panels. There is good access to hook the dump hose up through a deck fitting. I had all roof airs so can’t help you on that. My generator was installed fore to aft and filters etc. were right there when you opened the door. Easiest oil changes ever. Getting at the starter was harder FWIW.

Dave Rousey is a very good source of info and did some work on mine. Last number I had for him is 541-543-7983 He worked for Legendary and has lots of information like color charts and build sheets.

Hey Roger, jump in and tell him how good that coach really is…..

Thanks Mark. I thought Fast Roger had a Liberty now. No, after our experience with our 2002 XLII Marathon back in 2002-03 with that coach’s panel issue way back then, we won’t settle for anything other than no see-um Rvets completed by someone else’s ownership prior to whatever we buy. Not dealing with. It’s a bit shameful we see brand new display coaches which have loose panels. Just shocking, if you ask us

Jim & Chris, the Legendary guys as you probably know came from Country Coach. Consequently all the systems are basically the same as later CC’s. From what I understand the dual system is just a much more robust way of doing what the previous single two stage unit did. I know that Roger loves his and Steve Bennet has one that has the de-lam fix. Geo.

With experience I can say that the dumbest thing I ever did was buy a coach with a generator NOT on a slide.

One of the primary repairs on these can be the first main bearing seal. You have to take the generator apart while in the bay. That means taking the entire electric generating system off of the engine.

If you do additional work on the generator, it cannot be taken out. If required to be removed, this requires disconnecting the hoses which you cannot access except from the back from the other side bays which we had to remove. We removed the bay walls to get to this thing. These gensets are installed from the inside out. The remote radiator then leaked which required removal from the back wall where it was located….

After the 12 hours of labor on the generator itself, we were ready to roll. Unfortunately, the seal itself literally had a less than one-sixteenth of a roll in its seal and it leaked again….. there went another 10 hours …. and this was a very good experienced Prevost mechanic accustomed to CC conversions.

We could have done this in six hours on the slide tray … run it and tested before placing back in position….

    My view….

Thanks Prez. Make you want to run…….fast in the opposite direction. Our first coach was 60449, a two HWH slide 1999 shell called 2001 Country Coach. We know partly how what a “pain” boxed up no slide gensets are after replacing rear inboard airbags. Don’t know who else did kitchen slides. We find them more roomy slides in

thanks for the info. Anyone know what the tank “caps” are?

As stated as far as control side of things they are very similar to a Country Coach….We have worked on several including programming…Frogen controls, spyder, crestron….Some things like inverter location did change on the coaches that were built, other things like power cord coming out behind the tag axle, things I personally dont care for but are not show stoppers…

Jim and Chris: Yes as others have stated I haven Legendary 1026 which is #26 out of some 31 that were made before the company failed. I have been very pleased with the coach. This being the 4th prevost I have owned all the chassis have been great but the converters have distinct differences. I liked the simple designs of the Legendary.

My wife and I both liked the “Bling” of the Liberty but after having two Liberty coachs I really like this coach.

There are similarities to the Country Coach and having owned on them you can readily see the some like features===the holding tank setup – the hose reel the shore power cord etc. Their is no problem servicing the Gen Set. Actually I have found it easier than the slide tray setup.

Mark, the previous owner of this coach did an outstanding job of taking care of this coach and I have attempted to do the same. We are presently in Bay St. Louis Ms celebrating Dan Smiths 85th birthday…Missing the snow that Jon is enjoying

Don’t head back this way yet Roger. There was snow on the grass until it melted about 10 this morning, so you are at great risk if you head back this way before summer.

I suspect that he has shut down his own company and gone back to the corporate world. I know he had talked about that some time ago. I double checked all the numbers I had and what I posted was the last one I had for him.

I did find an email that may work. daverjr4@gmail.com

If I find out anything else, I will post it.

Here is a picture of the generator installation in my old Legendary #1026
