  • Leak in Aux system

Posted by gary on November 6, 2013 at 11:03 am

I have tried to find this leak must be pretty big as it leaks down every 45 minutes, I have isolated the room slide seals with the valve for such, compressor stills runs, checked seats, floor slide, dump valves, pocket doors, have yet to check belt tensioner, found a leak on the valve on the tranny for retarder replaced it with new model, also small leak in valve in bay under driver, also have not checked the bed where else to look? Troy says that for the time being I can keep it off but need to start it before cranking the coach for the belts and if it rains let it run to keep seals tight and rain out, where else do I look for this leak? Gary

Gary, it will be time consuming but on your house air circuits you are plumbed from a manifold block. One by one disconnect the air line and plug the opening. Whichever circuit that you plug stops the leaking is the one to chase. I put ball valves on each of mine and I just turn them all off and they whichever one has air flowing into it after I open the valves back up ten minutes later is the leaker.

You do not need the air in your coach to tighten belts prior to a start. When the bus airs up they will tighten. Until then they are just fine even if they are loose.

do you guys have air cyl on your entrance doors? I know the XLE (entertainer coach ) I have does. A 1/8 inch line and a small cyl I found a slight leak in just behind door lock Mechanism .Actuwaited by door striker and pulls door firm shut. Will look up tech drawing and see where feed is from. Also in any coach any age don’t rule out a line rubbed thru or chewed thru(XXX mice) usually can hear the leak of that size. Listen top center of each bay for noise. If you can hear any I may can help further with pic of how lines can be accessed without tearing floors up. Not really rocket science. Bob

The toliet is a royal flush, works by water pressure so troy tells me no air, Jon I saw your manifold on another thread looks to be fool proof, I am in VA now will go back to Durham for start of procedure guess I need a gieger counter? TillmI find the leak all I have to worry about are the seals on the slides if it rains, will let it run in that case in mean time I am going to get a stethescpoe since I have CHS makes it hard to hear a leak when you can.t hear Gary

? not leaking back thru your check valve at aircompressor? Would be easy to add a extra one as a fail-safe. Then that would eleminate that from your possibilities. Issolate like Jon Said : as much of system as you can.

Good call Robert, aux air compressor check valve is the # 1 leak source.

It has been suggested that bus owners replace aux compressor check valve as routine maintenance every 2 years

Gary, take a look at page 6, air leak repair, 3- 7 – 2013 on the Pneumatic thread. Some aux. air

information with pictures on check valve repair.

Spent nearly a grand going after aux air leaks. Worked about a month and now have 1 run cycle about 7 days. Project got a little out of hand…I admit it.

Thinking about aux air it’s getting cold here in KC. I’ll turn off the aux compressor to see how long it well stay above 80 psi.

I wouldn’t wish air leaks on anyone but I am glad to know that it is not only older coaches like mine that have this problem. As Jon told me, “chasing air leaks is not for sissies”. They can be any place, air door lock, toilet, generator air bags……. I found a cracked brass fitting with a pretty good sized leak. Also found a leak in the 24volt “stop” solonoid. Bubble solution that kids use to blow bubbles works pretty well to find them.

Any time after 12:00 noon that I find myself mumbling and talking to myself I know it is time to stop with the bubble solution and substitute a bourbon and branch. Good luck

    Gary,

If you and Megan have time on the way back through stop at exit 398 and we can have lunch or dinner and I can show you on my coach how I isolate leaks. Despite the ease with which I can find which circuit is leaking I can assure you chasing the specific location of the leak is significantly harder. At least you limit where to look.

I think a lot of the Prevost system air lines are blocked with a solenoid valve when you shut down. It is likely you are losing air in the house side of the aux system.

We’ll be here. Even if we can’t figure out how to find your leak we can at least enjoy some time together.

We are hoping everything goes well for you in the meantime.

Jon, Things have changed a little and I will not be doing the radiation till January, in the mean time I have talked to Robert Hilt, and am scheduled to be in the Jacksonville facility for the slide issue on November the 21st. He is doing training there and finishes up on that day he will spearhead the repair of the slide. We decided to go ahead and do this then go on to florida and River bend, back to Duke in Jan for 6 weeks, if all goes good then back to florida for a while. Sorry I will not be able to meet with you since I will be traveling I-77 to I-95, I will get me a stethascope to help find the leak in the Aux system will check that check valve first. I can not say enough for the people at Prevost for working me in to their busy schedule, Thanks to all that made this possible. When I get to Riverbend I will give a detailed report of the repairs, again thanks to all, Gary

Well, the culprit was two fold on the air leak, but major one was the front floor slide, a real pia to get to! on mine you have to rip the carpet up and there is a small trap door for access to the back of the cylinder, do not know how you would get to it with hardwood or granite floors, the other was the front height adjusting valve, course had to call troy to find this out, I am still at Millenium have not heard back from Robert Hilt, I am just going to baby this slide problem go on down to Riverbend and get it repaired on the way back, guess I will just pay the repair bill for the work they did and hope to not get charged when I go back, I still prefer slides over non slide coaches and believe my problem is very fixable just have to find what it is maybe a bad fitting on the tapered shaft? Any way I am not going to let this get under my skin and will enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas at Riverbend before heading back north the first of Jan. First stop J-ville! Gary
