Ipad updates? To do or not to do??
Posted by Larry & Diane on September 20, 2016 at 6:46 pmI haven’t updated my ipads in the bus since the Crestron was put on them in fear of something not working right afterwards.
Should I do the updates ??? What is everyone else doing? I would like to do it but have a hard time messing with something that’s working perfectly as they are ONLY used for the Crestron System and nothing else.
Everytime I get in the bus it asks me to update them.
Jeff… what do you think about this?

Diane:
I am holding my breath as well and have refrained from doing the Ipad update…… Let’s have Jeff weigh in..
Thanks,
Brady

I have done all the updates except IOS 10 without issue. Mine all seem to work just fine FWIW.
This includes Apple updates as well as the Crestron ones. I plan on doing IOS 10 this next weekend, unless Jeff jumps in and says not to.

Mark…. when you mentioned the IOS 10 update it dawned on me that I had already dowloaded that on my ipad mini that I use at home and in the bus so I just checked it and it connected immediately… just had to put in password for the Crestron and it was good to go… I checked that the A/Cs were running and turned some lights on and off and could see those working so all is well there for me… I can operate all the functions from inside my house which is nice.
I still think you might wait for what Jeff has to say about it… I won’t do my others until I hear what he has to say about it.
You also mentiioned Crestron updates?? where do you get those from?
Cheers, Diane -
Yes you can do the update as well as update for the crestron app as there should be some….One of the updates dealt directly with video stream which is used in the backup camera systems
-
The Crestron updates should show up in the apple store like any other application you purchased. There have been a few.

So if I am reading this correctly, even if you have a system upgraded to the latest and greatest, and everything works as it is supposed to, you still have “upgrades” that have to be applied? In the computer world that means every couple of weeks someone has to go through all that those upgrades entail?
Progress sure is a PITA.
-
Jon, you are correct, progress can be a PITA…. But I sure thank God for it…

Jon… The updates we’re talking about are usually improvements… things change everyday.. just a few minutes and the click of a few buttons and it’s done. Very simple process actually. I wonder if you went to Liberty to get your system updated without the ipads what that would cost… these updates are all free… might be another good reason to go with the ipads after all.
Got my iphone 7 last Friday and love it… always improving the way things work.
Going to bring ipads in the house now and do the updates.

Just completed the updates to IOS 10 … works perfectly… did them (ipads) one at a time just incase something went wrong.
All apps up to date also.
So happy to have it done… did it in the house to use my unlimited home data.
I seriously doubt anyone will have a problem with it.

Diane: Which iPhone 7 did you get? I can’t decide between the regular and plus for the extra screen size…
-
Mark…. I have the 7 plus… started with a 6 plus and thought I hated it and went back to the reg size 6 and it wasn’t long before I wanted the plus back… it doesn’t seem big to me at all anymore and I love it… my original problem too was the case I used it was too big and now I use a clear slim fit gel case and it’s awesome. Larry also uses the plus.

Thanks Diane. I just did the IOS 10 updates on the bus iPads and all is well here too.

I have never updated my flip phone and I am just as happy with it as i was when i got it.
I have a whole lot of things that worked great when I got them that never got upgraded and they also just keep on keeping on.
However I was forced to update our computers to Windows 10 and Bill Gates can stick Windows 10 where the sun don’t shine.
