40 mph, same speed I was going at impact when the Prius tried to do a uturn in front of us.
The deputy investigating the accident had driven tour buses in Yellowstone, he knew Prevosts. He made the comment “That thing is a tank, if you’d have been in a standard motorhome, we’d be picking you up out of the ditch.
We drove it home 1100 miles!

Dan, any photos of the interior damage, and what objects came loose or went flying, if any?
A concern is being struck from behind by cabinetry or other objects like small appliances or table lamps.

Nothing came loose Jon, drawers and some of the cabinets came open so we had silverware, some bowls, and some canned goods scattered around. The one big casualty was my Prevost Community coffee mug, it didn’t survive. Tom has offered to replace it!(-:
None of the cabinetry moved, we did have a small bulge in the floor above where the Prius hit us in the bay as she was spinning around.

You mentioned you drove home 1100 miles. What was that like, was it tracking properly etc? It looks like the door took a pretty good hit.
You’re safe and that’s the main thing and we’re all sorry for what happened to your baby…

That’s where my “Monkey Boy” moniker came from…….seems several of our PC friends got a big kick out of the story….

The fact that nothing came loose in the cabinetry speaks volumes, especially after seeing the entire RV outer shell separate from the chassis in one of the tests on the above videos. In every test shown there was stuff flying.

Dan that’s really remarkable. And to think it wasn’t even a Liberty Coach. Really remarkable.

Those people were not from Tennessee, Jeff. I speak some Tennessean and could not catch a word they said. But the video message was loud and clear. Ouch!

We have passed a number of RV motor home accidents over the years. The one constant in every single one that we went by was the chassis and the house structure separated from one another. In almost every case insulation, wood and bits and pieces defined the path the vehicle took as it was disassembling itself
Rollover accidents were especially scary because it was obvious the riders had zero protection because if the upper structure did not separate, it collapsed.
Seeing one of the TV shows about high end RVs really drove home the point about the lack of passenger protection when showing how one RV that cost over $1,000,000 had the wall panels screwed to the chassis platform. They weren’t welding any upper structure. They were just using fasteners to hold the top to the bottom.

I figured that Dan, after seeing the pictures the door didn’t look very accommodating. Did you have an escape ladder by any chance? After reading the problems some have had with locks I went over to Lowe’s and bought one for my bus. It was $40 bucks and a lot more substantial than I expected.
I have to ask… What were your thought just after the accident and you knew that you and Judy were ok?

Would you expect to see separation in a high end Super C from Renegade, Showhauler, or Dynamax?
-
rule of thumb:::send 1 wrecker after bus—– send 1 wrecker and 2 flatbeds after Motor Home ! Have seen a Damon intruder run in ditch easy= frame separated from house.

Harry, first thoughts were how bad was the driver of the Prius hurt, I hit her pretty much broadside drivers door. I jumped out of the bedroom emergency escape window and ran back, she was out of the car and amazingly had only a sore arm and a bloody nose. Prius’ are tough!

Good question Michael, I like the Renegade Verona, but they probably wouldn’t hold up much better than a sticks and staples class A.
