  • I can’t reply to a post on a thread

Posted by Thomson on August 11, 2018 at 7:27 pm

I want to reply to a post on a thread. I click the Reply button at the end of the post, but the form that opens up is the form to create a new thread. How do I reply?

That used to happen to me a lot… log out and log back in for some reason that usually fixes it.

    Cheers, Diane

I too am having the same problem as is Thom.

I am using an I-Phone and an MacBook using Safari and FireFox browsers. Logging off and back on does not help.

Safari forces me to enter my ID and password each time while FireFox will remember my info.

Bless Jon for logging in as me. But he could not reproduce my problem, always worked for him using a PC.

    Really interested in the solution.

WOW! I clicked the replay on this thread and got the enter a new thread screen. So I proceeded to enter the above info for a new thread and here it is as a reply to this thread.

So, maybe the title of the screen is misleading as I was expecting it to say “Post a new Reply”.

As long as this works, I am good to go.

Yeah, it always says ‘Post New Thread’ for me too. It works though.

Tom and I get a lot of emails and calls from folks with issues relating to the site and if we cannot help the person with the problem by describing how to use the site, we log in as the user and see if we can duplicate the problem. If we do duplicate the problem, despite doing everything right we get our web guru involved.

Mostly however site problems relate to log in issues, use of some browsers, or some devices. Apple leads the list of being related to our problems and since Tom is 100% Apple devices he knows how to work around those problems and has posted the solutions often on this site.

As a computer challenged person my free advice to those with problems is to make sure you are logged in, and once that has been done to just push buttons, play with the site and explore the various ways of posting, starting new threads, posting photos, etc. You cannot hurt anything and you will actually find almost 100% of the problems encountered have a fix as simple as clicking on the correct button.

Forget the Post New Thread when hitting Reply, it’s always been there, ignore it.

Safari will not hold the credentials, never has and never will unless Apple does something different, not just our site, many others.

    Tom,

Not True , Safari did hold the info on the old site. And it did on the new format for about a week.

Not true… Give me a break, aren’t we talking present day? Yes it worked prior to the update, but not after. If you got an extra week, I’m glad.

I’m new to the forum (and ownership) but I am getting the same thing, also using Mac but am also getting the same results with my Android phone. it works but is confusing, I am a member of many forums and have not had a similar issue with others.

Attached image is what I see when hitting reply to any post in the thread, (the “Post Thread” button does actually post a reply to the current thread.

I can only reply to posts, I can’t start a new post. I emailed with Jon last weekend and he suggested a different browser. I’m sure I’m logged in correctly, I’ve changed my password, I’ve logged in on three different computers and have tried Chrome, FireFox and Explorer.

If I have something I really need to know, like the address for where to mail my dues, (I emailed Jon for that information) I’ll just do a search and reply to the closest thing that would make the most sense.

I’m a little hesitant to post this question because I’m pretty computer challenged, and it is probably something I’m doing wrong that will be totally obvious after it’s pointed out to me.

    NEVER MIND!!

I knew it, as soon as I posted the above I’d figure it out. Sorry.

Like most of you, I grew up before home computers, but Etch A Sketch prepared my generation well. It helps to hold the phone, tablet or laptop up in the air and shake it. Once the screen is clear, you should be good to go.

    Dave,

Don’t mail dues to Jon, they come to me.
