His Highness of Vonore
I hesitate to add to the many kudoos already heaped upon King Jeff, but only for the reason that if they continue he will have to trust Josh and Dan at some point to drive the busses in and out of the shop as his head will have become too large to fit in the door of a bus. We had to make a “quick” trip to Wi. to drop my race trailer (planned 4 days) and developed a brake drag and small fire in Chicago. After having PASS get us a service truck to pull the drive tires we determined that a brake chamber failed on the park brake side. We caged that brake and went to a Volvo/Mack repair place that was recomended and camped till the next morning, it was Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. We were worried really only about the drive axle hub seal because it had been toasted somewhat. They had many excuses Monday morning why they couldn’t or didn’t want to do the repair, so we took a chance while checking the hub frequently and continued to Wi. to get rid of the trailer. No one in Milwaukee could or would do the repair in a timely fashion and there was incomming weather that was a consideration, so after talking to Ben and Jeff an executive decision was made to try and make Vonore, which we did. The kudoo…Jeff managed to fit us in on a very busy week for him and replace all the brake chambers, hub seal and brake pads on the drive axle plus another elective repair we have been trying to get done. All the accolades are well deserved and he keeps proving what an asset he and his crew are to this community. I will be monitoring his hat size though. Unlike Ben, as usual the check is in the mail. PS Tim…I hope he found your brake leak. Plus, we go out of our way for his “expensive” oil change service LOL. Geo.

Great to see you Geo & Cory and thanks for the traveling tips to get down to FL in Jamuary. We are atill at Jeff’s awaiting our window from Canada. We (Jeff & the boys) are still tracking down the air leak in the brakes. On the up side, we have enjoyed some gorgeous hiking in the TN mountains!

Actually, Doughnuts have not been the problem. Since we’ve been here we’ve celebrated two birthdays. Josh turned 21 last week (and I led the HB chorus) and I turned …. Well, you get the picture. Anyway, way too much birthday cake last week so it’s back to fiber bars this week!

I made it through both B’days just fine…don’t like doughnuts or cake. Can’t understand why I keep getting fatter. Oh, I know…don’t hike the Tenn. mountains like Tim and Cindy. I thought hike was a football term. Geo.

Oh, by the way, do they make tilt and telescoping steering wheels for race cars, just wondering.

Buddy, real race have cars detatchable steering wheels, and even then it gets harder every year to get in and out of. And that’s with no doughnuts or cake. Geo.

Lets be truthful here boys, Old and Fat boys need not be playing football. That would be either Old or Fat… (I fit both categories). Twisted knees, ankles, broken hips, strained backs, and god forbid if any of you make contact with each other……..
Geo, you better keep going fast on four wheels, even if you have to scoot the seat back a little.Tim, you better keep to hiking those trails slowly. As long as your pretty wife is along to pick you up when you fall.
And me, I am going to eat Jeff’s doughnuts till I am 98 years old and be shot to death by a jealous husband. The moral of the story is be safe if you can and live life to the fullest!! 😉
P.S. We have air leaks to fix, and you can’t do that in a cast…..

Jon, the dragging brake developed a short time after we had been in a rest stop, and the bus had not been shut off. Didn’t notice any smoke until we stopped at a toll booth. Geo.

OK, Geo, I will buy that.
What you experienced is instructional and if you don’t mind sharing can you start by telling us if you have the Knorr-Bremse brakes or the Rockewell. The reason I ask is one has a diaphragm and a diaphragm can start leaking slow, and get very bad very fast.
Did you see excessive cycling in the primary and secondary gauges? I would expect for the air loss to have been sufficient to fail to hold back the spring brake the pressures would have been running low or cycling quickly.
Do you know if these are the original brake chambers? If not any clue as to the age?

Jon, no cycling of either gauge, not Knorr-Bremse, disc brakes on drives…Meritor? Jeff thinks the chambers were original…15yrs. 20/20 hindsight says I missed them when zeroing out. Geo.
