    Gil,

Just to clarify a point, it is only in the recent past that Liberty set its coaches up to run an AC unit through an inverter, likely from pressure from the marketplace because all other converters were doing it.

Almost every Liberty has OTR negating the need to run any AC units through an inverter when traveling.

If the OTR were to fail which has happened to me twice in 22 years I just fired up the generator and ran all my Cruise Airs. Ain’t no way a single AC run through an inverter or powered by the generator is going to keep me comfortable so I see no occasion when I will ever run an AC unit through my inverter now that I have a Liberty equipped to do that.

Most of the converters do not use the inverters to run A/C’s, they pass through. Marathon has been running 2 A/C’s on the inverter circuit since the 90’s and have sized the inverters, alternator and battery bank to accomplish that task. I didn’t know Liberty started doing that, when did that happen?

I think it likely happened that Liberty made the change to run an AC through the inverter when they switched from the Heart Freedom inverters to the Outback. That is a guess only. My coach has the ability.

Any body from Liberty or knowledgible about them know the answer?

I found this explanation very helpful, Jon. Thanks.

This summer I spoke with the owner at one of the parks we stayed who explained to me that the code that the RV parks are allowed to conform to is significantly lower than if they were wiring a trailer park. What exactly was different I don’t recall, but your wiring explanation sounds similar to me.

He chose to wire it the correct way, at greater expense. A rarity.

I think that Liberty changed to the outback inverter in 2007 and that started the ability to invert higher current and run a cruise air unit.My 2008 is one of the few that has 6-8D batteries and it is capable of running 2 cruise air units,I know of one other Liberty that is like mine. With 6 batteries I can run one cruise air for about 5-6 hours before the generator starts.I will invert and run the bedroom AC unit at night on some dry camping occasions.

I can’t speak to Liberty’s systems, but my Legendary is also setup to run 2 a/c units with the inverters. Running down the road, the 50DN provides enough power to do it, and I have 6-8D Lifelines for dry camping etc. I will also run the generator and 3 or 4 a/c units sometimes if it is hot. That way the entire coach is already cooled down when we stop for the night and I find that the a/c units will run less after we have stopped. Running two with the dash air is good, but it isn’t as consistent as with all 4 units running.

I have the Xantrex SW4024 inverters FWIW.
