I’ll give you my take Tim and maybe help you decide.
I have a 24” Electric King SS Grill in a beautiful cabinet that is on a air slide. It takes up the entire half 2nd bay CS and is absolutely worthless.
Marathon messed up on my bus because my curbside is occupied by the generator, grill, tv and plumbing bay. My tool bay is DS under my slides so I fight it.
Wherever we go there is an outdoor kitchen so for us a George Foreman when traveling does the trick. We have friends that have little gas portables that seem to work well.
For us wasting a bay for a grill doesn’t work anymore.
My bus is 8yrs and 2 months old and the grill has never been turned on.
As soon as BA gets out here he doesn’t know it yet we are pulling the grill out and with the existing cabinets and some slight mod’s I will have a functioning bay.

I use a Weber propane with a folding stand.
Works really great.

Tim we put in a small Traeger pellet smoker grill on a slide out. We use it quite often.

Yep Jon, I remember seeing it at the rally. You use it much? Thanks BV, good advice. What model Webber grill John?

My biggest fear is having a grill built in or portable stored in the basement if not perfectly cleaned
will act as a homing device for vermin.

As a follow on to Bernie’s post, I’ve tried and rejected at least a half dozen grills. My most important requirement, far more important than how well it cooks, is how easy it is to get it super clean and whether it fits in a plastic bin that I can tightly seal. I also want to be able to take the grill as far from the bus as I can get it, as I tend to be a messy and smokey cook. The one I use now was by far the cheapest one I’ve tried and it meets my criteria. Char Broil Tru Infrared Grill2 Go S200. You can get one online for under $120. Fits in a big plastic bin, which I seal with duct tape before putting it in my bay. It actually cooks pretty good, too.

I have one liberty put in but never use it I carry a weber electric grill it works great and when it stops I throw it out

Peter, Model #? Bryan, Like your idea of using a plastic bin to put the grill in, as long as it’s cooled off. Let’s see, I have purchased 8 plastic bins with sealable lids from Walmart so far ….

Propane and Electric are for sissies!
Do it right and use wood charcoal. I have used the small Weber – Smokey Joe – and it is good for about six burgers, 4 small steaks. Changed to a larger Weber Jumbo Joe and it will cook 9 burgers or six NY Strips. Nothing like real wood flavor. Stores in a plastic trash bag in the bay.

Tim,
The Weber Q that John mentioned is very popular. There are two sizes that most people carry, either the 1000 or 2000 series. I see each of them just as often. There is a Q Portable stand that fits both of them as well. They are very quick to set up and take down with the folding portable stand. We have the larger 2000 because we usually cook for more than 2 people. We picked the Q up after using a nice Camp Chef cooking system. It it awesome, but takes too long (for me) to set up and take down.
All that being said, the Traeger Pellet stoves are quickly gaining their place in RVs! I believe the newest one suitable for RV use is called the Tailgater. A couple of our friends have them so Shanna just got us one as well. It has legs that fold too, though not nearly as easily as the Weber Q. The taste off the pellet stoves is awesome, they are relatively easy to use, and people will comment how wonderful of a cook you are! You need 120VAC to run them though and they pull good amps. A friend said he tried to run one with a 2000 Honda generator and it wouldn’t do it, so I plan to be plugged in or run the generator while cooking.
Finally, I just saw Roy’s post and have to agree with him. My favorite for relaxing and taste, is the Weber Smokey Joe with mesquite charcoal brickets. Needless to say, we have too many grills. If you swing through Phoenix this winter you’re welcome to check any and all out 🙂

The grill in our 16 y/o Liberty has NEVER been used. We can’t find the cord, but that could be because it’s under a door, in a drawer, behind a door, which is behind a yet larger door that we just haven’t fully explored yet.
I don’t want to sound like a wussie, but we don’t have a grill at home. When my wife wanted to get a grill at home I said “NO”, she asked why. I was a little stunned, I thought the answer was obvious. I don’t like cooking period. If I don’t like cooking on a nice stove in the house under almost ideal conditions, why would anyone think I’d like to go outside to cook with all the mess, smoke, and work. And then have to clean up the grill and stuff. However I will gladly enjoy the labors of others over their grills; so many of you do a great job.
PS: The cord thing is kinda strange. Our coach was owned by the same couple for like 13 or 14 years, sold to a guy who had it for five months before we bought it and we don’t think ever used it. The cord to the grill was missing as well as all the Prevost and Liberty manuals that I presume were in the coach when it was delivered back in 1999. Two 3-inch binders of manuals and stuff for all the things that Liberty installed in the coach were there, but not that other stuff. All I can say is …. Weird. Maybe someday I’ll find it all under a door, in a drawer, behind a door, which is behind a yet larger door in a compartment we haven’t found yet.

Read the same thing about built-in grills never being used. “1997 Prevost for sale, Jenn-Air grill, never used” etc. We use the Weber Smokey Joe or it’s bigger brother. Never owned or used elec/gas so can’t comment. Have got my eye on the Kenyon’s for when we become bus owners but at a few hundred $$, I might do some more digging to see if they are actually worth it. Will likely have some sort of charcoal BBQ as well unless I can’t tell the difference with an elec unit!
Anyone out there with a Kenyon care to comment?
Edit: Just been looking at pellet smokers. The Rec Tec (regular & mini) seems to win the plaudits from pro’s and amateurs alike. Will definitely add to the considerations list.
