Jeff, Have you contacted Superior direct?
Any bus graveyards that might have one?
-
Thats why Im trying to get Part Number of a superior….Prevost only shows 1 1/4″ shaft where the customer has 1″ shaft…..
-
Wouldn’t Superior be able to match it if you provide the shaft diameters and any gear reduction if it has it.
As an alternative are there any 8V92 owners who can get a model or serial number from theirs?
What about buses in your yard? Any 8V92? Is Hugh able to see if he has a number such as on his or on a build sheet? Grabbing at straws.

All 8V buses gone….Have been on with superior, part number is no longer available and they dont have specifics on the sizes….I think we have found one that yes is 1-1 ratio, 1″ diameter shaft…just trying to verify that old one has all 2″ shaft length…

Jeff, if you still need info, I can get it off mine. I wish I had caught this post at work. Bus is there and I do have parts book too.

You can swap sides with ring gear if the one you found doesn’t turn the correct way. Prob already know that.

Part of the issue for this part has been that the original gear box was a boston gearbox. At some point in the coach life it was changed to a superior. At that time Prevost offered a 1″ shank gearbox, that is no longer available through Prevost. With this coach being stuck at a RV dealership with as it sounds no Prevost knowledge, then trying some things is much more difficult. I was able to get a part number for a gearbox, however both Prevost and Superior has no information as to the real set up of this gear box as far as shaft length and type. So the short of this is that Superior had none in stock and I was able to find one at a distributor…It is on its way and hopefully is a direct match…

No thank you….we have hopefully the correct gearbox ordered and scheduled to arrive where the coach is on tuesday…fingers crossed.

Jeff and all,
We used the Superior gear box with 1″ OD shaft to replace the Boston gearboxes that were failing regularly. The Superior was rated for a higher input horsepower and would handle this better. In Catbase under page Prevost XL 0525-02 They list gearboxes and refer you to section 0525-99 for gearbox #052212 and IS 97122 (Instruction Sheet)

Thanks for the response Prevost Service, much appreciated here on PC…

Just as a means of follow up…..I have not been able to find the correct gear box for this coach. Prevost does not have anything with a 1″ diameter shaft, superior gear box has and we purchased one with a 1″ gearbox, however the one on the coach has one shaft that is 4″ long. None of these can be found with superior, nor do they have one that I can either buy complete or with the shaft only that is 4″….As I said the customer is in NC and is now taking the old gear box and the new one to a machine shop to see if they can make a shaft…

Is it possible to get the correct shaft length but use different sheaves on larger diamater shafts? It is far cheaper to get off the shelf components such as pulleys and sheaves rather than machining.
-
I am not sure what is up with this coach however Prevost doesnt show as having used a 4″ shaft, so nothing from them….Superior didnt have anything they have found as of yet that would work either with a 1 1/4″ shaft as is now being used….min. order of 25 units….so
