Is 20 KW generator big enough to charge these electric cars batteries

I sure hope so. If not, the entire country is in BIG trouble.
Many coaches have a “buddy plug” with a 50amp/240volt RV four prong female outlet that gets power from the generator. I “think” that should be enough to power a Level 2 EV charger just like what you’d have in our house.

Why anyone messes with Duracell cars is beyond me. They are not working well in cold weather, there is not enough capacity in the grid to power them at the numbers the tree huggers want, and the battery packs are toxic as hell and can not be recycled to my knowledge. Give me good old gasoline any day. I have talked to a few people this winter who are not happy with what they bought and when you ask about range, they just shrug as it changes with the weather. Ford put out a bulletin telling people to not use the heater, just the heated seats and steering wheel to save range. That is not going to work in a Minnesota winter or anywhere else it gets and stays cold for 4 months or more. There was a video on Youtube showing cars that would not even charge in the cold weather.
I can go between 450 and 500 miles on a full tank of gas in my 2021 Lincoln Navigator, can get filled up in about 5 to 7 mins, take a bathroom break, grab a soda or snack and be back on the road in a total time of maybe 15 mins. Then I can drive another 450-500 miles. Can’t do that with batteries and I don’t see that ever happening in my lifetime.
Fossil fuels rule! They are the only reliable energy source we have besides nuclear, which the tree huggers also hate.
And BTW Dick, how do you figure the entire country will be in BIG trouble if the bus 20kw generator can’t charge one of these battery powered cars?

AMEN to that. I laugh everytime I see that picture of a tow truck pulling a diesel genset out to charge up a dead Duracell car on the side of the road.

Mark: If you can’t recharge an EV with a 20kw generator with a 50amp buddy plug, then many houses don’t and won’t have enough remaining capacity in their electric service to successfully charge an EV … let alone TWO EVs, an electric lawn mower, and an electric snow blower.

Did I just hear the light click on Dick?
The problem is those legislating for the elimination of ICEs still have not thought through how some folks need the range of gas or diesel vehicles, how the electric infrastructure cannot handle today’s loads, much less adding car charging, how the time required for charging impacts trips and people’s lives, or how much it costs to replace batteries. Add to that the issue of battery disposal and it suggests EVs are not yet ready for public consumption except as local, short trip vehicles.

What the hell. Ill pile on. Ford is working on a on an EV that can be charged via the regenerative braking by flat towing it. The target market is towed vehicles for Rv’ers It seems that in every one of these schemes a fossil fuel device is required.

To pile on some more, if in fact recharging can be done by towing there are going to be a lot of folks who think recharging by towing is free.
Those folks need to understand the added drag imposed is going to impact the RV MPG, but then again they might be the same folks who run their A/Cs through inverters going down the road because they think if they do not use their generator for that purpose they are saving fuel.

Well Dick, I hate to let you know that many houses now can not charge even one because they don’t have the extra capacity to do it. There are lots of people who have only enough to run what the house was built for. I know of some with only 100 or 150 amp services that are maxed out. Plus it doesn’t matter how big the service is if there is not enough in the grid to run everything anyway.
Fossil fuel is going to be here for a long, long time regardless of what the tree hugging fruit cakes say. They are clueless when it comes to reality.

If the Electric car is set to charge at the lowest priority it can be done from an RV pedestal or even a home with low amp service.

Feb. 14 2022 the “Department of Energy” found Ethanol added to gas is not the lifesaver they thought it was. Not that good for the Environment. Go Figure. Know it destroyed the Rubber fuel lines on my Old 65 Mustang and 60 Model Ford Pick Up years ago before I knew it didn’t like the rubber on the old fuel lines. Down here in Texas you would run out of Electric Juice before you got halfway across the State. El Paso to Orange Tx. is almost 900 miles. Might take a day or 3 to get across the State.
