Entry door
Does anyone have a source for a stainless steel plate that would fit around the entry door lock? We have a 1999 H345 Liberty chassis. Marathon uses these, but theirs does not fit a Liberty.

Yes it does and you dont use all the parts they send….also you have to modify the opening in the door for the handle usually…

Thank You for your reply! It looks like someone welded it once before. Seems kind of tacky to me with what these coaches cost and this is the only door. To each his own I guess..

not knowing who you are or where… there are differant solutions. A picture would be nice. Many have a emergency cable attached to pull to help in this situation. Bob

Steve, the price for the handle is correct, I just did this in April. What Jeff said is correct, you won’t need all of the rods, and the hole will need to be modified slightly, in your picture the vertical rod on mine needed to be longer. I took the old rod cut it and cut a piece out of one of the new rods that we didn’t use and made one to fit by welding it together.

Thank You for that! It just seemed a little pricey for a door handle latch. It even surprised the parts manager who said it was made of 14ct gold (lol) Thanks so much for the information

It’s not just a door handle latch…. it is a PREVOST door handle latch !!!! smile
Put $2.50 away every month and in 20 years you will have saved up $600 for the next replacement.
Just like the ultra-luxury car market, our coaches are expensive to buy and maintain when new. Once they age and become more affordable to buy, they still are expensive to maintain.
(I paid $500 for a NOS hubcap once… crazy, I know)

I have a box of left over latch parts will look to see if I have what you need. Will explain later how to make simple bypass. Welcome aboard. Bob

I bought a replacement for the original latch from Prevost Nashville in 2008 or 2009. I think it was about $160 or so. If I had known they were going to discontinue making them, I should have bought two!

IMHO I think the handle was cheaply made in the original coaches. I think if the back side of the handle had been a little more robust, the handle would last forever.
Ours broke as we returned from a trip after we had the coach parked at home. Cathie was outside, couldn’t open the door. I was inside, couldn’t open the door. I had to exit the coach through a window in the bedroom onto a ladder that Cathie had gotten out of the garage. Let me tell you … it WAS NOT easy.
The next I got all the tools I needed (some I had to buy special for the project at the hardware door), climbed up the ladder, and crawled back in through the window. Took the panel off the inside of the door and was able to figure out how to open the door, rig a wire to unlock the door, and put the ladder away.
Called Prevost parts, together with the CSR looked at the parts schematic, selected the right part, ordered it, and it was delivered. I thought I was getting a “new handle” … because that was what broke. The price I recall was around $150 or $160.
The package arrived in a day or so, it was really heavy, and there was LOTS of stuff in the box. I looked at the packing slip and the part number didn’t look familiar. I went to my email and looked at the invoice. Different part number, called something like “door mechanism”. and price was almost $600.
They exhausted the supply of the original $160 XL/XLV handle and the replacement was the XLII handle and mechanism. I could see stuff had to be modified. I had it installed by the Liberty techs at the Liberty rally in Maine last fall. The techs said it was the first XLII handle they had put on an XL/XLV chassis. They were surprised Prevost had run out of the old stock. I got a box of parts back after the project was over!
So the guys scrapping out roached out XLs and XLVs need to understand the market price of the door handle in good shape is in my mind $125 each.

no joy yet will continue looking. Original supplier was probably ATTWOOD. Unless your in a hurry..I can picture the box of parts. Now where the heck in a 64 by 80 bldg is another story. I know where it was before I started organizing. From looks of picture the original outdoor opener handle has been replaced by something other than oem.

I did not sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night, I have never replaced a door handle, and so far mine have all worked as intended.
But, the door handle is nothing more than a purchased piece of hardware that is not manufactured by Prevost, and in fact is probably used in the marketplace by someone producing a lot more vehicles than Prevost.
If mine broke and Prevost did not have the exact replacement available I would be visiting the parts department of truck dealers like International, Mack, Kenworth, etc. I would be looking on the internet for door hardware for utility trucks, ambulances, fire trucks etc. Someone is making and supplying that type of door handle and Prevost just buys it from them.
