Entertainers ?
Posted by Archived on October 24, 2012 at 1:40 amI have been ask more than once in the short time that I have owned My Prevost ” Who is on the Bus ” it looks more like an entertainers Tour Bus than a RV I guess to these people. My Son and I had it out yesterday and stopped to eat at a place where We got out and went up and ordered and sit at an outside table and ate. We were about half way done eating when the Manager approached Us and ask if everything was OK , and if We needed any refils or anything at all. Just extra nice if You know what I mean. Then He ask , ” Are You all with the Bus ? ” I said Yes , And He ask ” Who is on the Bus ? ” I simply said , ” I am sorry Sir , I am not allowed to tell You that ” He said , Oh , I understand ! , That sure is a nice Bus !
What kind of similar experiences have any of You had ? And what is Your usual Reply ?

The four questions we used to get before there were so many motorhome conversions, and almost all conversions were entertainer:
Do you have a band on board? (Or who is on the fancy stagecoach?)
Did you win the lottery? (Like nobody earns one, right?)
How many does it sleep?
How much did it cost?
That was back in the day when bus drivers would flash the lights or wave at us. That was when truckers were more polite than they are today. That was when the only group was the Prevost Prouds. Today it is rare when other conversion owners wave at each other.

I like Entertainers, they often run some very nice looking equipment. But I like Motorhome configurations better.
The most frequent question I am asked about my bus is “How much did it cost?” Which I freely admit, kind of irritates me. American’s want to know the cost of everything, but at the same time, I always seem to find that they know the true value of nothing. You ever notice that?
No one has ever asked for instance, “How much does it weigh?” How long did it take to build it? How many miles of wire is inside it? How did you find it?” Stuff like that.
They always just offer up … “How much did it cost?”
Taking all of this one step further, it is like my Daddy used to say: “Son, if you have to ask, you caint afford it.” Lot of truth in that. Another thing that mystifies me is the “rumor that just because you own a bus” you are made out of money … Simply aint so.
Most of us who reside in the bus community of life, know what they cost. We fuel them, repair them, polish and cherish them, and all of it requires an investment upon our part to make it all work. Contrary to popular opinion we are not all stinkin’ rich … some of us smell a little bad from time to time … true … But I have yet to meet all that many millionaires driving old used buses.
Now we will run this one up the flagpole and see if we can find anyone who will salute it. The most expensive part of any of this, is believe it or not, is the time. The time is the most expensive part of this endeavor, not the loose change.
You know, when you reach my mile-marker in life, middle age, a small voice inside you says … “Just because you are retired and living the good life. Just because you have reached that particular pinnacle in life, that doesn’t mean you should not take advantage of new challenges and seek out new adventures. You get on this crazy merry-go-round we call life and go for it, and by golly, you should make the most of it. Find yourself a good used bus on the Internet and then go for it!”
When you hear this little voice in your head, beware. This is the voice of Satan. Walk quickly, no run, to the nearest exit and check yourself out!
One night at a bus rally not long ago I asked a guy, “What does a paint job like that cost?” He smiled and said, “Y’know? I really LOVE MY BUS and you don’t want to know what that paint job cost, you really don’t.” So as you can readily see, “None of us are immune to this affliction, we all do it from time to time.”
A couple of weeks ago a guy walked up to me at the fuel island and he asked, “Where can I find a bus like this?” and I just smiled my toothy smile and said, “Nowhere, I got the ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD LIKE IT.” Which is true, no one else has one like mine, some are similar, but none are just exactly like it.
Not to be deterred he then he looked me straight in the eye and said it …. “How much did it cost?”
I just shrugged my shoulders and said, “Don’t know, never figured it.” What this guy just doesn’t get or understand is one simple truth. None of this is about money, it is rather, about time. All of it gets down to time, we don’t have enough of it, and we (all of us) are all running out of it in one way or the other.
That is the bottom line … the true cost.
This, I suppose is the best idea I was able to come up with this week. I freely offer it up to share with you, and all you had to pay me was a little of your time. Where can you get a better deal than that?
So …..When they ask who is on-board? I usually just smile and say “I cannot tell you.”
See you in the fast lane.

When you get asked the question on the CB or at the fuel island who is on board that is the perfect opportunity to get creative.
I once answered that question about 10 or 15 years ago while rolling through Texas by saying “I was a former savings and loan officer who was spending the money I stole before my prison sentence starts.” Di got a little excited about that because a lot of people lost money during that time and she was afraid we would get shot.
Another response……”You won’t recognize the name, but I’m the guy that invented Viagra.”
No sense passing up opportunities to have a good laugh.

How about “six Victoria Secrets models, bound for LA?”

I apologize, I put up How Much Did It Cost in Puppy Patch (Trash Talk) in June, with some 50-60 posts on here, I sometimes get a little tripped up and in this case repeated myself.
They are going to love me at the home ……

Oh my gawd I have went from an Oakie to a Box?
If you look directly under the photo you see “I like Entertainers, they often run some very nice looking equipment. But I like Motorhome configurations better.” That is a picture of an Entertainer that I shot recently in Oklahoma City. They were hauling some punk-rocker than I never heard of.
Prevost Re-sale Red is a pretty color, mine is gun-metal gray.
There is a shot of my old bus, it is in my Avatar at the bottom of the page, left corner. You can find more pictures of it on my website.
Thanks for your comment.

Hey Charles (Is that really your name? Charlie Brown? How incredible is that.) all things eventually reach a point, where you say, “It is done, stick a fork in it.” I do however know one guy who worked on a bus 15 years before he took it out on his first road trip. Now talk about patience and endurance, I don’t know if I have that in me. My uncle in Tulsa, worked 8 years on an airplaine, flew it one time and then sold it to this guy for a huge sum of money, he then taxied out on the runway, took off and crashed.
So there are no guarentee’s in life evidently.
Our bus is “almost finished” some touch up and shine work on the interior, bring it up to standards, and it will be for the most part … done. Then it will be just wash, shine, and run the old bird down the boulevard. Maint. items and fixing what will break from time to time will be the order of the day at that point in time.
I would like to do another one, but the wife she says we won’t be married too long if I do that (she wants a new kitchen) so I am going to have to be content with the one I have and call it finished.
Thank you for your reply,

Have a little 100 acre place here and raise Registered Longhorns as a money losing sideline. Took the bus, instead of a 1 ton, and a bumper pulled stock trailer and delivered 5 calves to West Texas(430 miles). Might as well be comfortable right! Stopped and dieseled up and and ole Gent asked me if I always hauled cattle with bus and trailer. I said no I’ve got 6 more in the bus and these guys in trailer started acting up and I put um in the trailer.
-
Oh wow, thanks a lot.
Six more inside the bus?
Who is going to clean up all this coffee I just spewed all over my laptop.
That is rich …. Thanks.

Glen,
That is a great one and almost makes me want to get a stock trailer and head to a truck stop.
