    That makes sense to me. I know some older buses(GM, etc) with side radiators had adjustable vertical louvers or shutters to help direct/force air into and thru the radiator.

    Think what you might have also been seeing are the radiator shutters when open. Prior to fan clutches a lot of coaches had air operated shutters.

    To the cheese guy, I downsized for simplicity with no regrets and yesterday after 5 hrs on the road in 93 degree heat, the fan clutch never cycled until getting off the road at TA for fuel, then it engaged for about 5 seconds. The fuel usage was up a little, only got 9.8. Had my first service 2 weeks ago, oil, lube and filter was 1300. Learning the multiplex system, solar charging, AGS and how long my DEF will last. I’m so bored, nothing to fix.
