We drink the water from the tank all the time. With an R/O filter after the sediment, charcoal, and the polish filters, there’s nothing to worry about. But I grew up drinking from the hose and have consumed the water in Ethiopia, so I guess I am up for anything! Lol.

I sanitize the tank twice a year, have charcoal filters and a RO system. I will drink the RO water, but only that water. The rest of the water we only use for showering, toilet, doing dishes, etc.

I know that an RO system is the ultimate and we have had ROs in our home but we are of a mind right now that we don’t have room for it in our Marathon….plus we are thinking of getting a water softener….so I am hoping for an alternative.

Also I meant to say that the sediment filter should NOT have charcoal….so that chlorine is allowed in the tank…to be filtered out later…..right?

No warts, Tom, though it did have some…..effects. Interestingly, there they used a system that was essentially gravity fed filtering through sand in a device that sat on top of the fridge. No R/O, can you believe it?

Doug, I am not sure that the amount of chlorine in the water is enough to keep the tank clean. Charcoal is only going to take out the taste and would go between the tank and the faucet, and then only until it gets overwhelmed by the chlorine. I would still drink that water, but when the alternative is bottled water with BPA (boob magic) it’s still not a bad choice. Other than sediment I don’t think I would filter any water coming into the coach.

We only drink bottled water in the coach. Our home well water is not safe to drink w/o running it through an RO system. Because we winterize I have not put in an RO in the coach for simplisity sake. I do occasionally fill the water tank in camp grounds – point is you don’t know if that water is safe either. So, drink bottled or put in an RO. As Jon suggests – I do sanitize the coach water tank a couple times during the summer to keep the green slime to a minimum 😉

Karl, good point about plastic…we try to avoid plastic exposure as much as possible….the bottled water we have been drinking is from the gallon jugs that are HDPE#2 which I guess have less BPA than PET bottles but this discussion made me realize our Marathon fresh tank is plastic, 10 years old and probably full of BPA!

I would like to find an in line type filter that will adequately filter the water to our ice maker.. As I said the HydroLife filter (that our coach came with and now needs to be replaced) is not super specific about what it filters. I’d like to keep out cysts! We only get water from campgrounds but I guess anything is possible….

I am thinking about all this because both Doug and the dog have had intestinal problems. Doug’s seems to be “food poisoning” and the vet thinks the dog had pancreatitis which produced similar symptoms. Both are on the mend now but just sayin….

If Doug’s symptoms are recurrent or chronic I wouldn’t necessarily blame the water. I have a friend who was able to diagnose himself as gluten intolerant after years of symptoms that occurred shortly after eating. Presuming that you share the same water, if that was the cause you should also have symptoms.

I think most places that we would stay with the bus have good, safe water. We have a well at home with a crazier setup than the bus (charcoal, UV, softener, R/O) but I will drink from a hose if needed. Still no problem. We are poisoning ourselves in so many other ways that the guvment tells us are safe that water without floaties doesn’t concern me.

How many of you have gotten sick from drinking water from your tanks? I don’t drink gallons of water from the bus but I do drink it from time to time and never had a problem.

We use the ice and drink from ours time to time. No issues yet. I don’t think it’s any worse than drinking the water at most restaurants. I

Or any town close to a “fracking” area. My brother works in ND in the oil fields and says the water looks like coffee.

We drink water all the time from the tank. Have a small charcol filter coming into the coach and then the onboard R/O filter. We fill gallon bottles and store them in the fridge and drink out of those. Haven’t been sick yet.

We fill out tank every couple days and dump as we fill, so we are running water through the fresh tank constantly. Water smells and tastes just fine.

I will say one thing. No matter where I go, I tend to run the water for a couple two three minutes before hooking up to it. After that It should be good to use every couple days to fill the tank when needed. I dont run off city water and close the black tank rather then keep the dump open all the time.

Guess we are part of the daring crowd. We have only the charcoal filter from Sears, and consumed the water from everyone of our motorhomes (8 of them), five were/are Prevosts, two fiberglass coaches and ’84 classic Airstream 270, All of our Airstreams over the years we drink tank water as well. Only added step we do is, carry a squirt bottle of chlorox mixture to saturate campground water faucet inside and out before hooking up,our hose, and occasionally add a tank freshener

Every day we hit the road leaving an RV park, we top off tank, and run water tank full, so we have our maximum amount of water. Have been left stranded in a rest area, with road closure due to weather and very little water in the bus. Never again
