I have 6 Direct boxes all programmed for Los Angeles local programming.

The 3 I have in the bus are registered to the house. We are able to watch the network Los Angeles Channels from Montana to Miami and LA to Maine.

If I want local where were at I put the on air on, hit channel scan and you get your locals.

The last thing I’m gonna do when I drive all day is pull in setup and call some guy in India for programming.

I’ve been doing this for 15 years, nothing new.

It appears that you have the national network package program. This packages is not spot beamed and allows you to receive the network channels either for LA or NYC anywhere in the country. That is a separate package from being able to receive your home market channels.

On the network package (like the one that appears you have), it’s no longer available for new subscribers and, it’s rumored that DirecTV will soon be cutting that feed. I had that package on my bus along with my local channel package. My home base is Florida and the locals only worked within the state. The national channels (in my case, NYC based) worked throughout the USA.

I’ll guess that when you first purchased that package, you had to submit a form in writing to DirecTV and wait a month or so for approval.

I don’t know what your talking about Guru.

We used to wash the access cards back in the 90’s and when they finally stopped everybody doing that and we had to pay for it.

The only thing they stopped on our account was the Eastcoast feeds which was nice to watch shows earlier.

I was worried when Marathon gave me 3 new receivers for the bus and they wanted to hook them up. I did not let them and I registered the boxes. Thought I would lose some thing’s but did not.

Football package was 490 when it 1st came out. Never signed anything.

I used to have the distant network and at the time I could choose East or West and watch locals anywhere in the country and sounds like Bernie is still on the west coast feed. Like others have said, it’s no longer available, but I could care less, Dish solves that problem with Dish Outdoors.

    This is getting pretty messy!

There are folks using work-arounds and there are folks trying to work within the given parameters. Mixing this information can seriously muddy the waters.

With DTV, we have been able to get DNS channells pretty much forever. DISH provided this service for awhile but they stepped on themselves years ago by providing DNS to those who did not qualify. They lost the ability to provide DNS to anyone. DTV kept doing things the right way and they have provided their customers with DNS programming for over 20 years (prior to that I received FL Networks everywhere in the US). When DTV turned on the spot beams, we were all left baffled but figured it out pretty quickly.

Today, things are what they are. “As of today”, it appears that if your account is registered (service address, not billing address) in the NY or LA service area you will be able to get that 1 Coast service. That will likely change if AT&T follows through with the current threat.

I believe that my full-timer RV waiver exempts me from the loss of DNS but what the hell do I know. What I do know is that having satellite TV without ANY Network programming is pretty much useless to me. I am hoping to get some clarification between now and June 1.

Just sent all my Dtv boxes back!! In 6 years of service, we never had a bill the same. I called in at least every other month to correct billing. Sat on the phone for an hour or more each time. As mentioned a few times, I scan for locals on the OTA antenna wherever we are and stream everything else. With certain streaming, you can watch the networks. With all the electronics available, I can check the weather forecast on my phone, watch the national news, and see a movie without the extra cost of either dish or Dtv. I’m sure most, if not all of us, have some sort of internet service. So I just use it! Of course, it will depend again on what package you have. We have a truly unlimited internet connection and have enjoyed over 200 GB a month many times, but when we are home, it sits idle as we have different internet at the house. Haven’t missed Dtv! I had it put on vacation mode for the last 2 months, until we got home to collect our boxes there to send back.

Its actually an AT&T sim card under an old contract. You see them for sale on eBay. Verizon has them also. But these are from old contracts and somehow the owner adds you to their account. Most of these are small communications businesses with multiple accounts that they sell to you at a monthly charge.

We pay for ours monthly with our PayPal account so our CC # isn’t available. There are a lot of sim cards available out there that say unlimited, but may slow you down after 22gb or so.
