I use recycled fried chicken oil with an additive of KY Jelly and have never seen high temps on my third member, not to mention the power divider.

Dick: With high ambient temps (90F+++), pulling about 70,000# gross, and traveling at 75mph, I have no problem reaching an indicated 250F in about an hour or two of driving. Temps will continue upward unless I make a pit stop or I can keep them at 250F by reducing speed by 5-7mph.

I added the diff temp gauge to my coach because my 1990 came equipped with one and I realized how important it is under certain conditions.

I change my synthetic diff fluid every 30,000 miles. I went to 50k once and when I pulled the drain plug, nothing came out. Had to stick my finger in to break up the clump of powdered iron blocking the drain.

Is there a bung in the differential case for the diff temp probe?

There was a bung on mine. Had to put a ground wire on axle and stole a wire from something else (rear radar detector??) for gauge.

oil: suggest what was original fluid at time of mfg. I changed one to syn= rear end noise. FWIW…my 98 came with diff temp gauge. Bob PS so many opinions all I can do is share experiences.
