Bill,
I’m reasonable sure you can upgrade to at
least DDEC III maybe IV. I’ll do some research over the next few days.
If Clifford doesn’t respond here I’ll call him. I see no reason why you
would loose your gauges if you upgrade the DDEC system. Up to around
2000 the dash gauges use separate sending units from the ECM sensors.
Some trucks and other vehicles have dashes after 2000 or so that use the
1939 or 1708 CAN line to get information for the engine gauges.I
have the DDEC I cab modules for a 6V92 and an 8V92. If I can figure out
which is which you’re welcome to try it, of course if it fixes your
problem I’d like to get about $50,000 for it, Just kidddin.Ken

you say you have been using the same air filter for 8 years. Change it or run the engine without the filter to see if the vacuum guage acts the same.
I resently lost turbo booster readings and crawled up hills and ran great on the flats and I had a leaking pipe to the turbo. Get the engine running and look for soot or air blowing out of your exhaust joints. Yes you spent money for someone to do this but even at a prevost repair shop s@&$ happens, check out yourself.
check out Southern Oregon Diesel just north of Rosburg Or. or Dick Wright at Wrico internationalSouth of Eugene Or. If you are in the Portland area Tim’s diesel in Hubbard Or.

I also had great service and parts from North Valley Diesel in yuba city ca (530-671-1730) when I had my problem. But you will probably never get up the hills in southern Or by the Or/Ca border.

Bill,
Confirmed what I thought today. You can go to DDEC III. It requires an ECM, engine harness, a different boost sensor, an intake air temp sensor and in your case it would probably be best to build a new chassis harness. I probably would get a new TPS sensor also. Might also require some new cruise switches.
No reason why your dash gauges won’t work with the upgrade. I put a 2007 DDEC V in my 1988 and my tach and speedo are the only ones that required changing. You won’t even need those.

Don just replied on the BCM board and says he thinks it will require new camshafts and injectors.

Have you ever had Prevost actually work on your coach’s problem, or have you just called them for referal to another shop / DD dealer? You were not clear on that. If you did not have them check it out, you may want to. They may be able to find something that has been missed by others. They have the shop at Mira Loma, CA that appears to be the closest one to where you said you were heading.
I also find it funny that you put a restriction gauge in that instantly showed to much restriction in the intake. What was the rating on the gauge vs. what Prevost or DD says it should be? I have never seen one do that unless there is a problem in the intake system somehwere….filter, collapsed boot or something similar. I know you said that it does not do that now, but it was something that seemed out of place.
If you are dead set on blaming the wiring for the problems you are having, I would think Prevost would be a logical place to get it looked at.

Have you been to DD valley two blocks away from prevost Mia. Loma1-951-681-9283 give them a call they have done good work for me
-
Bill,
I am not trying to defend Prevost, but it does need to be pointed out that our coaches have 4 service providers and we as owners need to understand we are best served by using the appropriate service for our coach.
Prevost historically has serviced the chassis which includes the structure, electrical system, pneumatic system and the engine radiator. Detroit Diesel should be the primary service provider for the engine and DDEC. Allison is the primary for the transmission, and the converter or a service facility that services the conversion part of the coach handles the “house”.
I don’t think Prevost is trying to blow you off or is failing to help you. I think you are dealing with a problem that is far outside their area of expertise.
The exception to the above is that I believe Prevost will have more of an active role in servicing the Volvo engine because it is “theirs”, but even that might be limited to routine maintenance and an engine swap.
I think the advice offered here was all good, and if I were in your shoes I would personally be doing everything I personally could do since the “professionals” have failed. I would be seeking someone with a DDEC I that has everything working and I would start swapping parts until I found what restores power. I would create a temporary wire harness that I could hang externally for test purposes just to rule out the harness as a source of the problem. Nothing should be overlooked including bad grounds, bad pins, plus everything else mentioned above.

Call the Redding DD Service 800-564-2232 in Redding CA
and the North Valley Diesel in Yuba City, CA. They told me they had 5 buildings of DD parts new and used and work on a lot of 8V92’s 530-671-1730.
Pacific Power has another shop in Medford Or and might have a tech that know something about 2 strokes.
It is getting harder and harder to find anyone who knows how to work on a 2 stroke. The straight 40 wt oil is almost impossible to find on the road.
The BusConversion forum would be a good place to ask these questions.

If it was me after all the time and headaches , I would put new engine , Trans and anything else new and be done with it about 40,000 to have a shop do that work about !!!!!! As much time as you have spent that would be what I would do and then you could enjoy your bus!!! And do your business like you said , you use it for your business , then you could move on and start making money , just my thoughts , I would not have that kind of time to screw with it that much!!!!!! Put series 60 in it or what ever you want Cat or Cummings it can be done !!!!!!
