For those that had fears of cyber gremlins getting their checking information, now you can use your favorite credit card or debit card to purchase fuel at the cash price. I did some quick comparisons as follows and remember, swipe, fuel and hit the road, no fuel desk visit:

Fuel Cost $2.50 per gallon Cash
Fuel Quantity 100 gallons

We worked very hard to set up the fuel discount program initially. There were many hours of discussion, investigation, and miles of travel for Tom and I to meet with people that could provide the program we thought would work best for our members. Its shortcoming we were told by those who chose to not participate was it was based solely on deductions from a checking account. Members who like the program but did not want to allow access to their funds wanted to use a credit card.
That was easier saId than done because as the fuel stop signs all clearly show there is a penalty for using a credit card.
But we kept pressing Profit Tool to see if there was some way to provide that option, and again after countless discussions and emails we now have a choice. Our members can opt for checking account direct deductions, or the use of a credit card, or both to get the fuel discount program advantages.
Despite all the comments we have heard over the last few years about the program, and how members who did not participate were wanting a credit card option, now that we have that option in place the results have been underwhelming. How about some feedback? Where did we go wrong? what do we have to do to increase participation?
This is serious because the more volume of fuel that flows through this program the more effective we can be in negotiating benefits. The more members that participate, the stronger our influence on expanding the program. We are owners of a coach like almost all of you and we enjoy these benefits and want more. But if we have programs in place, including those like the NAPA card and the participation is low, we are beating our heads against the wall attempting to get more or improvements to the existing ones. What did we miss? How can a card that allows us to swipe, pump and go not be something everyone wants?
Help Tom and I understand.
BTW, just in case anyone is interested neither Tom nor I get a penny of benefit from participation in the discount programs, including this one. In fact with this program we pay exactly the same annual fees everyone else does. We don’t even get a free ride.

Jon,
You might want to announce the availability of the credit card option on both the Newell Gurus and ForeForum forums.
I prefer to stick with the checking account. My credit union provided a free account just for Profit Tools to access.
Thank you and Tom for all you do to help us.

I think the program is great!
I use it at all my fuel stops. Even when Love’s is harder to find (like Florida), I manage to find a Flying J or Pilot.
As far as security for your checking account, they are all FDIC insured and I usually keep a very low amount in checking anyway so the risk is minimal.
The reason I would use a credit card is simply to get reward points. But I believe the discount is more advantageous in getting the cash price vs. credit card price.

It is a benefit I definitely use and will continue to use. I appreciate you both working to make it available to us.
I will change over to the CC option since I buy most of my fuel outside the Love’s network anyway so I already miss that 10 cent discount. I usually get 5-6 cents off the cash price at Flying J and Pilot and that coupled with the CC perks and all my fuel records being in one place pushes me over the edge to the CC option.
Thank again, guys.
Davy
Edit:
I started the process and ran into two things. It appears that I have to set up another account with an additional $25 annual fee. I have a call into Debbie for clarification.
AND the transaction fee for Flying J and Pilot and other non Love’s locations is $5.75!
Have I misunderstood? Please do not interpret this as a complaint. I am just clarifying before making a final decision.
Davy

Stand by boy’s, we’re getting clarification on Davy’s question.

I love the card guys, especially the Love’s card, which I use when there’s one around. Mine is on my checking account. Never had a problem, and I signed up when the program started. I like the emails for receipts, and Alicia with Proffit Tools has been Very, very nice!
Thanks Jon and Tom for creating this program! You other guys……..start participating!

We like the Pilot/Flying J card, but will sign up for the Love’s checking card program when we get home. I was a little apprehensive about the automatic checking account deduction, but think I’m over it. So you’ll have one more participant when we get home for the trip.

This is a repeat going back to the inception of the program…I’d gladly pay .10/gal more not to have to go in once much less twice. Geo.

Ditteaux to all the Yea sayers. Get in,get filled and get out. No problems since it started. The only thing which would make it better is to start drawing off the PC bank account once we accumulae a large enough ballance through dues.

Love the program. Use it whenever I travel. Linked to checking without issue. Not having to go in and play the game makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks to Jon and Tom for setting this program up. We have been using the Love’s card since the program began and it works great. No problems and a real time saver!

Those who are not yet participating the above comments are absolutely on target.
When we started the program our focus was on two benefits. Obviously we wanted a discount that just about every other vehicle at the truck islands was enjoying. We wish we could get one at all of the over 5000 locations that honor the cards, but after using it since its inception I can say for certain that limiting my refueling to Love’s locations is not an inconvenience, and with planning has worked out extremely well except where there is an absence of Love’s locations, specifically in New England.
But as Geo points out saving a few bucks at the pump is nice, but never having to wait in line twice at the fuel desk is priceless. I never have to leave the side of my coach. I swipe the card to start the pump, I refuel and I drive away. It is hard to imagine how convenient that is until you get used to doing that. But now I never want to go into the truck stop unless there is something I want inside, which is just about never.
Pick your option and sign up. You will never again want to give up the convenience.

According to the sign-up instructions for credit card use, there is an initial fee of $25 to CHECKING ACCOUNT. ???
-
Joel, if I remember correctly you get that back as a credit on your first purchase. Geo.
