My cabinet might not be exactly like yours. I removed the built in Black and Decker coffee maker and remodled the cabinet to have a conventional back with electrical outlet. In the cabinet a MrCoffee 4 cup maker now fits along with the filters and coffee when closed for travel. When parked I have the coffee maker on the counter. If 4 cups is too small for you, you can make more than one pot.

Hi Jim, You have a good set up there. My cabinet is a little smaller than yours I think. And for me to get the coffee maker out to begin with, I have to pull it up and through after moving the microwave out of the way. I’m trying to find a way so that I can still brew inside the cabniet with the door closed, but that may be wishful thinking. Most of the coffee makers that I’m finding out there are just too tall for my cabinet. I’ll keep looking. Thanks for the picture.

If anyone has a Black & Decker used in the Liberty’s, I’ll purchase it, looking for a spare.

Tom We have a B&D coffee maker works fine. The pot broke last year so we don’t have that. You are welcome to have it if you want. We’ll see you in Bella Terra and can give it to you than. Rick

This one is tough for me! Black and Decker…common now! Are there no coffee lovers out there? Folgers, Yuban or Tasters Choice, oh and for the New York contingent, Chocked full of Nutz??

You are not drinking coffee unless A: you grind your own beans and they are fresh B: buy a coffee that is palatable to the descriminating palate, ie: Peet’s, Major Dikinson’s, Starbucks Verona, Seattles Best, and C: have a device that will actually brew you a good cup of coffee.

Throw that other junk away and either install a Chemex (old but reliable), a French Press, perhaps a fancy Italian Espresso Maker or…failing all of that, a Cuisanart Machine will do! At least Cuisanart is associated with food!

That home brew Black and Decker, or if you prefer Mister Coffee, stuff is NOT DRINKABLE! Just something odd about drinking coffee made in a machine that is in turn manufactured by a company that makes electric drills.

Don’t waste your time or money on anything but the best when it comes to coffee!

Gevalia. However coffee is like so many other things in two respects. There are so many different types and blends one brand, however how highly regarded is likely to have types that taste crappy and some that are very good.

But most important is the second point and this applies to wines, foods, cars etc. and it is personal taste or preference. Our daughter and her husband are wine lovers and what they like is in our opinion worse than paint thinner, and the wines we like aren’t even on their list.

Starbucks is for people that have too much money.

    Jon,

During the late 70’s I bought a some acres in the Napa Valley and grew a few grapes. Soon we were surrounded by so many wine snobs that I opened an s corp under the name of Raught-Gutt Vineyards in jest. We bought wine from the co-op in St. Helena had it bottled under our label which included our wine makers name, Stu Padasso, slogans such as “aged on the truck”, one of our most popular was “Day Glow Red Wine”, followed by” Rae-Jean Beach White Whine”.we even sold “L and G White Wine” (one needs to know the history of the area to understand that one). Whats funny about all of this was that it flew off the shelves in the few stores that carried our brand, we received orders from around the world and countless restaurants to boot. We sold the label to an old hippy in Sonoma in the 80’s but we had a hellava run with crummy co-op wine (where two buck chuck comes from) and even developed a following. Personally I thought most of our stuff tasted like a cross between paint thinner and kerosene yet others would talk about the bouquet, the nose…bla, bla, bla…..At the end of the day there is no accounting for peoples tastes…

Now back to coffee,,,Starbucks? Hey, started in the 70’s by a couple of school teachers in Seattle, sold at Pikes Market forever before it caught on and boy did it catch on! And, yes there are coffee snobs as well.”I’ll have a double de-caf vente carmel mochiata with an extra shot”…huh??? Translation, “I want a large cup of de-caf with milk and sugar in the raw and a splash of espresso to add some caffeine.” So the school teachers did well, not only sold coffee to the unwashed masses but they taught them basic Italian as well, on the public’s nickel! Grevalia…..mail order Swedish roasted stuff that is a year old when you receive it!

And now to the original premise, Black and Decker Coffee makers. Evidently this thing is in plain view whilst sitting on your Ikones lounge….to me its like putting Ketchup (I like that better than catsup) on a Filet Mignon or serving Tott’s Champagne at a cocktail party, something just isn’t quite right. Kind of like life, it all has to do with the size of the bubbles!

    Hi
    Flyu2there,

Your Napa stories are classic! and I agree with you on the Black and
Decker coffee maker point. I think Liberty went with the coffee maker that was available at the time and more than likely it was probably the only one that would fit
into their “under the counter” design. Now unfortunately, trying to find a
decent maker to fit the cabinet seems unlikely. Contoure had the only maker on
the market, I could find, that would fit and it too had its “flaws”. I saw some used B&D’s still on ebay, but I
think I’ll fix my cabinet up like Jim’s and use it that way.

Apart from having to work around an obsolete coffee maker that has space limitations our coaches are loaded with devices and appliances that had the coach built around them. Having had the pleasure of dealing with replacing obsolete devices I can say with conviction converters should strive to create installations that provide an owner with flexibility in selecting replacements for original equipment.

I have dealt with TVs, a Refrigerator, a back up monitor plus assorted minor replacements. All of which were located in an opening sized exactly to suit the device and any change required far more work fitting the new replacement than was justified. The alternative is to leave the failed device in place, or make expensive modifications to accomodate the new. Sometimes it is simple. Most of the time it involves laminates or ceramics or vinyl materials no longer available. It always ends up looking like an afterthought.

When we broke the pot on our B&D, I checked and found a new replacement unavailable. Did a search on ebay and came up with about 6. All sorts of pack rats out there.
