John, If you can spin the engine when you turn the key the starter is not the issue. If you do need to get at the starter use the aux compressor or an external air supply to raise the rear using level low. Block it before you get under.
When you turn the key on, before cranking the engine wait for the check and stop engine lights to go out. Then if it starts and they come back on I lean heavily toward a sensor. I forgot how, but you should be able to flash a code if that is the case. Maybe Prevost can help tell you how to do that.

That is what was happening Jon, originally the bus would start fine and both CE lights would go out but come back on within 5 seconds and stay on until the engine shut down at about 30 seconds.
So attempt to spin the engine with a breaker bar while using the start button, if it spins the starter is free you say? That is much easier for me than attempting a jumper to the starter to see if it turns!

I would have to come up to speed on this by seeing if it shows codes, but I am guessing you are shutting down because the engine thinks there is one of the issues that shut it down. If you can get it running, keep hitting the stop engine over ride every 15 or 20 seconds and see if it keeps running. Obviously if no oil pressure shows don’t do that.

If memory serves me, turn the DDEC test switch on in the steer compartment. Turn the key on but dont start. Hold the shut down override switch down continuously. Count the flashes on the check engine light. There will be a pause of flash sequence between the 2 digit fault code. I think 16 (X….XXXXXX) is coolant level sensor.

Have you check your coolant level? On my Bluebird 8V92, it started, but would shut down after 30 seconds. It ended up that my coolant level was too low.

Verify the code flashing procedure with Prevost. There were multiple ways of doing it based on chassis year.

I do not have any solenoid like that in the side compartment but I do in the engine bay.
It has 24 volts on one side and when I hold the start switch in it has 24 bolts on the other side so it appears to be working properly.

Ran DDEC test and got these codes:
13 – Coolant level circuit failed low
16 – Coolant level circuit failed high
22 – EFPA circuit failed low
43 – Coolant level low
46 – Battery Voltage low
52 – A/D conversion fail
they all pertain to coolant, but still don’t understand why it is not starting.

I just reread the post and it is not clear to me if you are currently having cranking issues or starting issues. I gathered that at one point it would start and shut down. Is it currently cranking ok?

I the beginning the coach would start fine like 3 seconds than shutoff after 30 seconds like clockwork. After reading the codes I am sure this is a coolant sensor and I am looking for the PN.
Right now the coach will not turn over at all. From either front or engine bay I just have a click of the solenoid and nothing else, not a hint of noise from the starter.
Voltages are good
Solenoid is good
Batteries are good (each) and total (24v in all the right places)
Tonight I will try to access the starter and check for power when the starter button is pressed to rule out the starter but other than that I am stuck and baffled

John, I think your coolant level codes are showing what I suspected and assuming that is the reason you shut off after 30 seconds that issue will be resolved by a new sensor.
I think the starter issue is unrelated and being lazy by nature I look for the low hanging fruit. By that i mean one problem that has been reported from time to time is the front/rear start selector switch. Before you tear into the coach too much, exercise that switch several times and then try to start from the front. If it will not engage the starter, leave the key on and try a rear start.
If that doesn’t work then you just have to see where the open circuit is going to the starter.

Mine does not have any solenoids in front the starter solenoid is in the rear. On the engine door it shows it.
