  • Clearence Lights

Posted by glen on February 10, 2015 at 9:32 am

Have a 1991 XL and broke a clearance light cover and on removing it, broke base. Prevost said they have found 10, 5 front and 5 back, but recommended changing over to LED’s. These are coming from all over Prevost’s network. They stock the same in led’s that would fit. Standard are getting hard to find maybe. Gonna check with service manager and see what’s needed to have them install led’s. Anyone had this done and is their a napa alternative for light?

Glen, Grote has LEDs that are direct replacements you may have to hard wire them in but the old ones are very hard to get lens or base I would replace with the LEDs

Thanks Peter. If I can buy them local mo better. Didn’t know if you had to do any major goodies to wiring or related electric components other than just cutting wire on old and replacing new.

Thanks Les. Just getting into the 21 First Centery with led’s . Are these bulbs just a drop in replacement on say like 1157 bulbs the old stop and clearence bulbs?

You can buy LEDs that you hard wire in , or there is some with the plug that goes into light I do not think on yours there is enough room to use the one with the female plug on light and male plug on wire , you need the harded wired ones.. As for the tail lights if you change the bulbs to led they are not that much brighter but if one led burns out you still have lights , the old ones when it burns out no light but most have two bulbs in light. The nut wells that go in side of coach that light screws into can be hard to put in if they need new ones I don’t think prevost will charge much to change them out , I replaced all the well nuts (that’s what I call them) in my bus some were striped out would not tighten light down I got them at prevost when I was there and screws to match. Ask prevost how much to change them out they will have lights and well nuts and screws to match

    Thanks, will call.

Just talked to Prevost Houston (Bubba) and 2 hours to change out plus clearence lights cost. Might be the cheapest I ever got out of their with.

Don’t want to thread drift but Also talked to him about tech’s putting 9 gallons of oil when yhet changed oil on Level 3 service a week or so ago. First time i was able to catch him. Said they will arrange spot and get me in to see if anything else is going on with oil all over engine. Was gonna try and blow oil off before it baked on but think I will let him see mess. LOL. Still about an inch and a half over full on stick.

When dealing with “Bubba” and Prevost Houston… my respectful recommendation is to tighten up that agreement….

Understand, Reagan. Never have got out of any Prevost shop without overruns on verbal price. I don’t think getting it on paper would help. Always hated bids or firm contracts in my little fab company also. Just like a ball park figure on job so I know weather to put wife out on street corner and for how long!

Looking for Clearance lights for an XL, they are 4″ x 2″ 12 VDC. Strange they are very hard to find. i have had trouble with the chinese ones, the UV destroys the plastic in less than a year.

Here’s a thread I did 2015 (no issues since) when I installed new front and rear upper cap clearance lights:

Don, I saw those they are much larger than the original. How do they sit in the 4″ x 2″ pockets? The hole spacing is wider than original, Did you just screw them into the fiberglass?

They are same size as the original and fit just like the original.

Here a picture I took this morning. Nothing difficult or unusual about the install (that I can remember).

Thanks Don, The lights you have are definitely too big for the pockets in my front cap. The pocket is 4″ x 2″ and my mounting hole center is 3.28″, the ones you have are 3.63″. They must have changes the lights and how they mount sometime between my year and yours. I will keep looking.
