It’s smaller than 40, don’t remember. You can’t go too wide, head banger.
Door is hinged on the left side, TV is bolted to swinging door and is a slim Samsung.
DVD is in bedroom and still old TV, works fine, we never use it.

Dorel, Our bay TV is a 32″ and sits outside the original opening but is not too wide to obstruct the speakers. The smaller model that fit inside was a 22″ and just too small for outside viewing. However, I chose the 22″ model for use in the bedroom. The 24″ was literally 1/4″ too wide to fit inside the opening.
Tom, I need to perform the same operation on my bay TV for external volume control. The old Sony TVs I pulled out had a small line voltage converter installed by Marathon. I guess I could pull that unit off and reuse it on my new Sansung. How difficult was it to get inside the case and to the internal speakers? That 22″ unit has a headphone jack on the rear that serves this exact purpose so bedroom TV functions as was originally designed through the Clarion amp.
Here are some interior pictures. Can someone please teach me how to rotate them?

TG, outside TV is not interfering with the door when closed? Is it stored out of the cabinet? the one in the bedroom looks cool, how did you installed it(you mentioned upholster).

Thanks, I would like to follow your lead on this one, can you please e-mail me detailed photos? Not easy to build the “contour” door, what was the reason not to use a swinging bracket with a small tray/dark lexan material in the bottom to cover the open space? I guess this is cleaner.

Hi Tom-
I just installed the new TV and mounts in the bedroom and bay. I’m not sure how to hook up the sound however. Can you give me some guidance? I have the Marathon set up with the external amps. The original Sonys were hard wired with a red, black, white, and green wires. The new TVs, Vizios, have a headphone jack in the back. A tech told me I could connect through the headphone jack.

How do I wire the four wires into two RCA jacks?
-
Tad,
I took the back of the new TV’s off, cut the wires to the speakers and soldered wires to hook to the RCA jacks. So it was the same setup as Marathon did, Liberty used to do the same thing and all works fine. You lose the internal speakers in the TV, but who cares.
You can’t use the mini output jack with the adapter you show, it won’t work. Another option is to use a sound bar if you don’t want to fool with the wiring. I wanted to retain the Marathon speakers as you probably do. It’s an easy job.
It’s hard to see, but the wires are coming out of the TV that have RCA’s on them.

Looking at your power plug on that set, it looks like it is not fully inserted, so if your TV doesn’t work one day, I would check the plug first as it may have vibrated out.
OK, maybe I should change my online name from Triple Foxtrot to Troublemaker…

Fred… I also noticed the lime green zip ties making up a black wire harness. I don’t know if that is “PC” approved ?

Tom, do we need these when changing out the TV’s?
Adjustable line output converter and ground loop isolator?
Thanks

-
You don’t need the isolator, but will need the converter. You can adjust the left/right volume output.

What does the converter do?

Thanks Tom. Looks like my pic did not attached.
So, how did you wire this in, since there are 4 wires on one side and 2 RCA on the other side?
To open the new TV and hardwire the speakers, not an option…There must be an adapter avail to plug into audio out or headphone out to the 2 RCAs?
Left / right adjust is for the amplifier correct? At at home I have audio l/r out from TV into amplifier, it works.
Thanks
Edit:
Talked to Marathon tech, reason for the ALOC being added to the TV’s during 90/2000, was Sony’s TV lack of stereo audio output.
New conversions use the TV headphone 1/8″ jack adapter to RCA or optical adapter or RCA audio out if avail. Sound L/R is controlled thru TV controls.
I will try and advise by end of this week.

Let me know how that headphone jack out to RCA works out for you.

TV audio cables, I do not have the diagrams, what does TRL and RLT mean?
One was connected to the audio line converter the other to the TV audio.
Thanks
