Bay Door Acuator
Noticed one of my bay door acuators was not working off my power switch and ordered a new Bay Door Acuator thru Prevost online.
It looks fairly simply in replacing this part, with easy access, removing three screws, along with removing the two red wires and one yellow plug.
Just wondering if there is anything else I should know during this replacement before the part arrives Friday.

I had an issue with lazy bay door lock actuators. It started with an occasional failure of a door to lock or unlock when I locked the coach or bay doors only. It also failed to unlock all the doors when I did that using the bay door lock switch.
I do not know if this is exclusive to Liberty or it applies to all coaches, but replacing the relay that controlled the door actuators resolved the problem. I found the actuators are sensitive to reduced voltage as a result of poor contacts in the relay.

You’re certain it’s the motor, remove the linkage and check to see if it moves. Like my previous post, they get gummed up and a little out of line preventing the motor to move the accuator.

I’m not totally sure, but I did undo the access panel and worked the hinge back and forth, lubed all the parts, and the acuator still did not work. I also switched out the relay with a relay I knew was working and that didn’t fix the problem.
When I talked with Prevost, they said a failed acuator is a common problem. The part was only $63 so I decided to order one as my next step to figure this issue out.

Few years ago I thought I had a failed actuator too and bought a new one. Turned out to be the rubber stop behind the door handle was gone causing a misalignment of the bolt. That caused more friction resistance than the electromagnet could overcome. So might check your rubber bumpers behind the handle.

so the part arrives tomorrow, but when I got back to the RV today, I was trying the “unlock/lock” bay door button and now the bay door lock that wasn’t locking, is locking, but it’s not unlocking using the “unlock/lock” button in the bus.
Not it sure now if it would be a bad acuator or it’s something else.

I’m not sure if my post will help or confuse you but I have replaced 2 of my actuators and ordered them through Prevost. Either I did not look hard enough at the parts diagram or they only make one actuator but they are side specific for a direct fit. This does not mean one couldnt be swapped for the other.
All I did was take the 3 bolts out and turn the mounting bracket around and re installed the bolts; that is no problem. The other issue from what I remember is having to turn the connector on the harness 180 degrees to keep the door from unlocking while all the others locked. In doing so, you have to break the keeper tab off b/c it will not fit down on the actuator correctly to lock it in place. I used some silicone and a zip tie to make sure it didnt pop off later on and it has held for the last 30K miles. Breaking the tab off was not my idea nor is it ideal but I have seen them done that way in the past.
Also make sure you dont bump the micro switch in the process and have it move out of position b/c it will drive you crazy when all the bay doors are locked and the light still says you have unlocked baggage doors.

Patrick…where is the micro switch and what does it look like? I’ve had Marathon and another shop both try to fix my dash light that is continually on saying that my bay doors are unlocked when indeed they’re locked. I pretty much ignore it and still check all my doors before takeoff but I would love to have it fixed.

Love it when the part works!
Acuator arrived today and within 30 minutes, changed out to new acuator with no issues. The old acuator was obviously going bad, only locking, but not unlocking.
So for those who have a bay door lock that doesn’t work off your remote “lock/unlock” button in the bus, it’s an easy and a relatively low-cost do-it-yourself fix!
Here’s a couple pics:
Old part (gold cylinder) with new part (silver cylinder) and the extra bracket they supply (I used the old bracket)

Pull the relay and forget about the light. Tim taught me that one.

This is what a micro switch looks like. It is mounted near the one of the rods that move back and forward on or near the actuator and the silver piece gets pushed in closing completing the circuit telling your dash light all the bays are locked…if you were still wanting to know.
I dont see one on Tim’s door set up and it very well could be a converter installed thing, but that is how mine is.

I do have a micro-switch like that one on my bay doors. The two red wires I referred to when I replaced my bay door acuator were attached to the micro-switch. I didn’t need to remove these wires or the micro-switch to replace the acuator.
The Bay Doors are from Prevost and are not a converter part.
