  • Asheville, NC Recommendation?

Posted by Sam on June 16, 2017 at 9:38 am

Hello all, We are travelling through TN and on into North Carolina over the next few days. We hope to visit the Biltmore Mansion and spend a few days around Asheville. Any suggestions for a nice, Prevost friendly RV park in the Asheville area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies!

For the last couple of years we have stayed at the KOA West (not to be confused with KOA East). It is 99% big rig friendly with a few ‘soft’ leafy limbs to watch out for.

We stayed at Campfire Lodgings once when we had the Dynasty. At 42 ft., it was rather tight but a 45 ft. coach can fit as they have several longer sites, all large sites are back-in.

The entry drive is really, really steep with a tight turn as you reach the office where it levels out. I decided not to take the Liberty there and found the KOA West. It’s about a 20-25 min. drive to the Biltmore Estate from the KOA, easy drive.

    Safe travels,

    Mark

Thanks, Victor and Mark. We are looking at the Apple Valley resort, and will also check out the KOA West. Is anyone familiar with the Mountain Falls Resort? It seems to be in about the same area, too.

Do not try Rutledge Lake CG at Fletcher, NC. Only one site that’s semi-suitable. Very tight.

Thanks for the kind, timely replies. I think we are going to narrow it down to just Apple Valley or Mountain Falls, depending on where we can book a site for 4-6 nights next week. The wife (Kim) is very partial to paved sites, whereas the Golden Doodle and myself aren’t nearly so picky!

WOW! We loved Mountain Falls in Lake Toxaway (have been there twice). If I had known that you wanted to drive that far to Asheville, I would have suggested it.

The road to Mountian Falls either from the north or south is very twisty but doable. Be careful.

    Thanks Mark,

I’m headed to Lake Toxaway in a few weeks, (after the new bunk mods have been completed) and am looking forward to spending time in the area and escapting the South Florida Summer Humidity!

    One word of caution….

If you notice scratches/scrapes at the bend of the RV lot that you are pulling into, make sure and raise your coach.

We were in lot number 54. I didn’t hear the ‘scraping’ but saw the evidence on the lot. When backing out, I raised the rear of the coach. ‘C’ didn’t alert me to the noise as he didn’t realize what was going on (not coach savvy).

Our coach has the generator exhaust somewhat at the center under the coach and the c-clamp bolts that stick down will scrape a little if there is a high spot on a lot or incline depending on the grade.

Love Mountain Falls…. you will be SO tempted to buy a lot there, especially in the ‘RIDGE’ area. The cottages are so nice looking and the ‘Lodge’ is also very nice w/pool, exercise room, etc. We went to one of the gatherings where they served food. The people were very friendly, it has a nice bar and the food was very good.

    Safe travels,

    Mark

Just a follow-up note to thank everyone again. We decided on Apple Valley, and have been very pleased. Highly recommended for anybody who wants to visit this area (Western N.C./Blue Ridge Mountains). Both very freindly owners and renters are here at present. We are one of 6 Prevost buses here today (out of about 46 sites, all total, at about 50% current occupancy). All sites are easily accessible by 45′ bus, so no reason to worry at all about which site to rent for a few days (or longer), other than simply personal choice of what might be available. About 50% are back in, and the rest are pull-in sites. Ours happens to be a back-in site. We have met one couple about our age (mid-50’s), who have already started talking (after seeing our 20 year old Liberty Elegant Lady) about selling their nice 2015 motorhome, and getting an older Prevost conversion, instead! We, of course, have already referred them to prevostcommunity.com, for further research and knowledge acquistion!

A special thanks to Victor and Madonna, who recommended Apple Valley, and were still here for one night after we arrived.

Here is the view from the front windows of our bus, and another, from my swing at the back of the site:
