A Day at the Office
Short trip to Ocala, 90 miles, morons are alive and well, including a clueless lady driving a school bus for Polk County FL.
I was only doing 15 mph coming out of a school zone, otherwise I probably would have hit her. This video will be going to the School admin.
The redneck pickup missed me by maybe a couple feet, I didn’t see him coming, I was on cruise at 64.
I posted this just to remind everyone the importance of a dash cam. If you don’t have one, get one…… Mine is the Wheel Witness and has performed perfect for about 2 years now.

I’ve had one for the coach for a while and just recently put one in the truck/toad.
I think an idiot’s story may change once I point out to the responding officer that I have dash cam video.

School bus drivers think they can do anything whenever they want. I noticed one this morning in a similar situation. And, they get away with it! I’ve never seen one pulled over either.
Redneck truck almost got you with his contraption on the back.

Do you mind posting a picture of how you have it installed/mounted? Do you start and stop it manually or does it go when you start the key or when it senses movement. I use a gopro a lot for the travel videos I create but don’t t record 100 % of my rolling time….

Did you use the air horn on the school bus? Or the Redneck pickup with the contraption on the back? Looks like work pickup in the school bus video didn’t use his turning signal.
I’m not sure what highway/large vehicle etiquette is … but I’ve started to use the air horn when someone does something stupid. For example, if a school bus would have done that to me, the driver would have gotten the air horn from the time I started braking until the school bus was out of my lane. The Redneck pickup would have gotten a short blast.

I have had a dash cam now for about 13 years. Each has a removeable card so I can download, but neither had voice recording or GPS. My current Wheel Witness I have had for several years and it replaced the original because it has a 170 degree field of view. The greater the field of view the more you are going to see.
As to mounting each dash cam has its own unique way the manufacturer planned. My Wheel Witness is attached to the windshield with double sided tape. The previous one used a suction cup. What you have to do is look carefully at how the sales literature shows the mounting method because a lot of dash cams are intended to be mounted to a steeply sloped car windshield, and the flat (vertical) windshield of the bus may not work as easily with all mountings.
I know we have become jaded because the video’s Tom posted are so typical it is almost expected drivers will do what he shows. The morons are really out to get us so be careful out there.

Is your dashcam mounted? on Dash or connected to inside of windsheild? The new camera on Amazon shows it mounted on windshield. just curious.

It’s mounted to the left lower corner of the driver windshield. You need to be certain it’s located in a position that will allow the wipers to clear the camera view. The camera is always on and activated by my ignition master switch. That way the camera can be on without the ignition key. I leave it on when I’m parked in temporary places, like Walmart, rest area’s, truckstops, etc.

I count the dash cam as necessary given how drivers have become inattentive. It will not protect you from having an accident, but it will memorialize the event.
Even if the cell phone users are doing a hands free conversation with those things in their ear I see them waving their hands and so engrossed in the conversation they will drift out of their lane or be unaware of what is happening around them. The camera won’t stop school buses from pulling out in front of you, but it will save you from having to defend yourself.
One of our members who spun a car that cut across his lane of traffic too close (he might post) would have had video evidence the car that wrecked caused it all by itself. He was ticketed, went to court and won, but would have stopped it before the cop wrote the ticket if he had the video.

I would also suggest that you do not hand over your copy of a issue to a police officer without making a copy of it for yourself….That is your proof of what has happened and you need to maintain a copy of it as well….so practice making a copy of videos on your laptop or whatever you carry with you in the coach…

Unless you are one of the inattentive drivers or you typically are in the fast lane passing everything in sight and tailgating folks that will not move over a dash cam should be a piece of required equipment.
We are targets. We not only have the normal issues with moron drivers, there are unsavory people who see the coach as an opportunity for them to make a few bucks. We are seen as rich people and therefore potential victims for accident scams.
For your own protection get a dash cam. If you are the cause of an accident get it out of the window or pull the card or whatever you have to do. But if you are the victim it becomes the proof needed to get you off the hook.
