Harry, expect to get some suggestions, but I think you are on the hook to figure this out because somebody modified a great Beaver electrical system and installed one of their own not so good design.

Your first step to figuring this out is to determine if you are talking about a DC circuit not working or an AC circuit. If you don’t know what I mean by that get some help because that is key to knowing where to look.

When you determine which electrical system is not providing power to the components not working you literally have to start at the batteries to find power, and keep moving upstream until you find where the power stops.

My first reaction is your batteries are dead, but you have to verify that. Then you have to find out why.

Have no clue if this is the case with Beavers, but liberty has a master switch as you come in the door for all lights and another for tivoli lights. Allows you to turn off all lights on the way out with a single switch and turn them all back on with one switch on your way in.

I’m aware of the AC and DC systems or course but it never occurred to me that a system plugged into 50 amp service the DC side would fail? That would also mean that the AC side could fail when running the generator?

The 50 amp charges the house batteries. So Jon, are you saying if the house batteries are bad the DC systems will not work when hooked up to 50 amp service? My house batteries are 3 years old.

I know that all this makes perfect sence to many of you and I’m just trying to figure it out? I’ve learned a lot since buying my bus and the more I learn the more I realize I don’t know much.

There may be a master lighting switch by the door. cycle it to see if that may be the issue

Hi Mikee, I have 3 switches by the door but non that effect all the lights. I’ll check to see if there’s a switch somewhere I’ve not see. But I’ve not seen one that turns on all lights. I’d like that feature though!

Harry check and see if you inverters are turned on? Iknow on mine if the inverter or the circuit breaker to the inverter is not on I have know power to the AC lights or entertainment section. These coach were originally designed with Todd inverters and then had a relay system that would bypass the inverter if off. If one of the previous owners put in newer inverters they may not have done away with that relay. I have several of these in my coach and for the live of me can’t figure out what to do with them. If want AC I keep the inverters on.

Don’t know about the Beaver Coaches . Can switch off my batteries and shut down inverter (just have one Magnum) and it still will power up on AC side pole power. Transfer Switch will grab and do the same on generator. Harry I would check your AC panel (be careful) as most are split and 110/120 down each side on breakers. Your Cruise Airs are 110/120 volt also. My builder had all my ac’s (3) on one side and changed 1 to the other side. Helped with the amp draw on that side when running. Might have dropped a side. Don’t do it hot or have a electrician check in panel. I do my own checking but then again after once or twice grabbing something hot it blew all the hair off the top of my pretty little pumpkin head. I know just enough to be dangerous and could be wrong.

Go to your bay on the passenger side….two things in I think second bay is where the chargers are….see if there is a breaker on the side of the charger that is tripped. Also in the 4th bay I think is your other breakers have you checked them? I think your charger for the batteries is not working for some reason….

Harry, The batteries may be bad now, but what I said was that they were dead and as Jeff points out for some reason they are not charging.

I have no clue what power you are supplying to the coach, but anytime you switch from one power source to another is is important you monitor your system gauges to insure those devices you want to get power, in fact are getting power.

Typically all of our coaches get power to inverters from either the generator or any shore power source regardless of available amps, however if the available power is a limited amperage it is not unreasonable to have the current draw exceed the breaker current rating and trip breakers which is why inverter current draw has to be adjusted as needed.

Thank you one and all for your comments and I’ve tried all of them today. I know the batteries are good because they crank the generator without a problem. I’m going over again tomorrow to crawl around the inverter bay for lights, resets etc, recommended by Jeff and Jim Lane. Jeff also made the recommendation to check the 50 amp service etc.

I’m in a new section of the park but where I’m parked there was a DP plugged into power without complaint. I know the managers very well and will have them check it just in case. It’s frustrating and with winter coming on I need to have the portable heaters working when it drops below 40. No freezer here as yet but its coming in a couple weeks so I need to get this power situation handled.

Some have mentioned a master switch that turns on/off all lights in the bus. I wish my bus had that but it doesn’t.

Harry, does your generator not have its own battery? I mention this because you said you knew the batteries (house) were OK because the gen started.
