A friend in the west who’s got nothing but time, needs a ton of work.

What work did this coach need? I spoke to Marathon about this coach two weeks ago and was told it was in great shape, and came with a 6-month warranty. I even found a bank willing to finance this coach. We haven’t moved on it becausethe sale of our house hasn’t closed yet. You have me wondering what the closing delay has saved us from?

Not to hijack this thread, but my experience with Marathon corporate sales has not been very impressive. The marketed coaches seem way overpriced in comparison to comparable Marathons marketed by independant dealers or individuals.
I called about one of the coaches located in Texas, which seemed to be priced about $100K over market value. The salesman told me that the coach was on consignment, and that it was suffering from “significant” delamination. He then launched into trying to sell me a different coach, which was owned by Marathon, of course.
I am also searching for a coach, and I thought that buying used from a converter reduced the likelihood that the coach would be problematic. Now I am not so sure….

They are going thru the bus and doing upgrades. If someone buying has never owned a bus going with the converter can have advantages.

I’ve have never had a better experience in buying a coach than when i bought a coach from Marathon San Antonio FL. Although the coach was on consignment to Marathon they did everything and worked with us on everything to learn on how to operate the system.
I am sure the salesman wants to sell what is in stock but in the end he does not want to pay for all the repairs when he sells a consigned coach.
One can bargain the price he wants to pay, and in the end both parties must be happy with a deal for a deal to be completed.

I have bought three coaches three different ways. First a private seller, second a dealer and the third from the converter. I am sure if I looked hard enough I could have done better on price on all three coaches, but I do not believe I would have made a significant difference in the final cost.
All three have been good coaches, all three were perfect in the respect everything was working as it should, and all three were reliable. But the last coach bought from Liberty was by far the best way to buy a coach. Everything was right. We did nothing but show up to do the final inspection, get two days of training, and head up the road to enjoy the coach.
In all three cases however we did clean deals. No trades, and when we heard the price we could agree on we did not hem and haw, we closed the deal.
I am now convinced that buying from other than the converter you the buyer assume all the risk unless the dealer or broker and you can agree on some after the sale support. We do have some great dealers advertising on the site so I can say with confidence it is possible to get support after the sale from other than the converter if you are willing to negotiate that.
A private sale is one in which what you see is what you get. If in fact you think a coach from a converter is over priced, keep in mind that generally speaking the converter is selling a coach that is in almost new condition and that often includes tires, batteries, etc. To me there is a real value and far less stress buying from someone that may (not always) charge more, but they also deliver more.
BTW, initial asking prices are typically wishful thinking so don’t be swayed by them.

Thanks Bernie! Your initial post about the bus needing a lot of work had me concerned. I can certainly understand someone wanting to do major upgrades on a 14-year old coach.

That 2000 Marathon H is just gorgeous… shame you missed it… I bet some fussy ass guy bought it and has it in hiding getting it all up to snuff… who knows !!
Keep looking… you will find one.

The larger question is not where the guy is hiding, but why hasn’t he shared the joy of his new purchase.
He appears to operate under a cone of silence. Or he is not proud of his new ride.
I just hope to see it someday, and I hope it has one of those fancy joey beds that goes in and out of the bay with the press of a button.

think I figured it out… The guy is on the OTHER forum and us
PC folks are not in the loop. That is the only logical explanation,
otherwise, the guy would be proud of his new to him purchase and
would be sharing his joy with all his PC friends. Too bad, we would
really like to share in the bus purchase happiness.
