  • Fantastic Vent

Hoping someone has the secret decoder ring on replacing fantastic vents as mine just gave up the ghost.

when mine were working – I could flick a switch on my bath or kitchen cabinet and the fans would start and the lids would open automatically. When I turned the switch off, the lids would close and Dan’s turn off.

My fans had 3 speeds, an in/out toggle, and a temp knob.

When I look at the website, most new fantastic fans have remotes and the simpler models all point to a universal manual with no wiring diagrams. Would love to keep the functionality of the existing cabinet switches.

    Thanks!

That’s really good to hear, I thought maybe after Atwood bought them out it may go downhill.

Actually Atwood and Fantastic Vent are owned by Dometic. That happened last year. For those that have a tired vent Fantastic has an upgrade that uses your existing housing and cover aND with removing a few screws and disconnecting the wires, you are back in business with a new fan.

When one of mine broke (lifting arm) in a wind gust down on the coach, went with a Maxxair Plus Fan as it has 2 lifting arms, rain sensor and 10 speeds. Fit right back into hole and just wired in back in to 12 volt wire that was there. When the other one dies will put the Maxxair back into that hole. Seems like the the 2 lift arms are a whole lot better.

Country Coach hid these behind nice walnut vent doors – so I really want to use the remote cabinet switches.

What stopped working? It might be easier to fix what you have than replacing the whole unit. You can get pretty much all the parts online.

On our unit the brass sleeve that connects the gear motor with the arm that raises the lid stripped while we were on a trip. Ordered the replacement online, had it shipped to an Amazon locker in the next city. It was there when we arrived and 30 minutes later we were back in business.

I agree with a previous poster. What part isn’t working?

While on our recent 100 day trip I posted that we had trouble with our Fantastic Fan. The roll pin that connects the gear box to the arm that lifts the vent cover came out (for the second time) and I replaced it with a simple stainless steel button head bolt and nylok nut. Easy Peazy once you’re to where you’re at.

From what I can tell, everything for the vent and fan works off the vent cover. As the vent cover raises, a micro-switch turns the fan on; as the cover closes the same micro-switch turns the fan off. When the vent cover is open, a little piece of something is now exposed to the elements and as soon as this little piece of something is exposed to moisture, the vent starts to close.

So if the roll pin is out, replace it.

If it doesn’t work in spite of the roll pin being in place, then I suspect you have an electrical problem. Look closely at all the connections, the micro-switch, or the piece of something that closes the vent cover in the event of rain or snow.

It’s 25 years old and works intermittently. I have repaired it in the past. It’s a control board related issue. Also just started leaking in heavy rain so given I need to go up and remove the shroud and reseal, might as well install a new one.

i did figure out the remote control. Pretty simple. Country Coach just wired the vanity switch in series with the open/close switch on the fan. Don’t even have to take the fan apart. The switch pops out. Remove one spade plug and connect it to an extension lead. Connect a second extension back onto the switch.

    easy.

I recently heard they changed ownership and no more freebies.

Worse, when I called tech support it was clear the guy didn’t understand the product. Very typical when the new people don’t keep any of the original folks. I was very disappointed. I hate it when a product with factory support turn into just a skew in a catalogue.
