Mobile phone an internet service
We are using Verizon for phone and internet service, they have great coverage but are high priced. We are reaching out to the membership for some ideas on other carriers that you have been useing and are pleased with. We generaly travel the western USA.

Hi Larry, I for one have used AT&T for years. I use to live in Clark, Wyoming about 30 north of Cody and 20 miles from the Montana line. AT&T was the only choice.
I don’t remember being in any part of the country where I didn’t have service. And that’s saying something for being out west. My coverage runs around $700 a month.

We switched from AT&T to Verizon because of much better service in the west. AT&T was terrible in Casa Grande, Arizona area. May have improved now this was a couple years ago. Probably just depends on where you are.

We just switched from Verizon to AT&T after 15+ years due to cost.

I have spent 20+ years traveling full time and I mean traveling. We travel Coast to Coast and at every time of the year. Verizon absolutely has the best coverage Nationwide. AT&T and T-Mobile I would consider to be tied for 2nd and Sprint is nearly worthless.
I have always been a Verizon customer (after dropping AT&T in the early 2000’s) but T-Mobile is offering a 55+ plan for $70/month for 2 phones with unlimited data (on phone useage). This also provides unlimited 3G hotspot service. You can add 10G 4G hotspot for $10/month or “truly” unlimited 4G hotspot service for $25/month. So, for $95/month you can use the phones for unlimited voice, data and messaging for WAY less than anything Verizon offers. Is the coverage as good as Verizon? No. However, it has not been an issue for us as we can live a night or 2 without coverage and we don’t camp in the boonies!

where you travel and what you do online.
Most of what I am stating here below, I have already mentioned here again and again. Some people will say „oh, here he goes again, bla bla bla“.
If you travel mostly in and around metropolitan areas, then any of the big 3 carriers will be fine.
If you travel into outlying areas, it will depend on where this would be.
Download the Apple App „Coverage“ and drill down on the location. It shows you exactly what you can expect anywhere across the US of A.
For example, we just spent 3 months in the Big Bend National Park area around Lajitas, Texas.
Neither, Verizon nor AT&T nor T-Mobile do have towers in the area. Never mind, Sprint. They are useless. Not having a tower means that you are roaming and that means you are paying extra and still depend on whoever provides the roaming services. At best, cellular got us limited 3G service.
We do have grand-fathered unlimited data plans on AT&T and Verizon. That is good enough, most of the times and takes care of the 100-300 Gigabyte of data we do use every month. This did not help us in Lajitas.
We were handicapped in Lajitas since there is no fast speed Internet provided by cellular carriers. So we ended-up paying the local carrier BBT big $$$ to wire us up for fiberoptic broadband. Mind you, we stayed for 3 months in one place.
Again, it all depends on where you travel and how much time you spend on the road. If you usual travels are for 3 months of the year, then you take whatever you can get.
If you travel here, there and everywhere, You live with what you can get.
If your data needs are basic, then go with whatever you can get.
If, however, you just want to have the best possible service, then you have to do your homework and pay the price.

We switched from Verizon to Consumer Cellular. Consumer Cellular uses the AT&T and T-Mobile towers. We have been pleased with the service and cost. I have been on the service since August 2018 and switched my wife’s phone after Christmas. The only negative is an older iPad will not work with their system. The new iPad Pro will work with this system.

I have had AT&T or it’s predecessors since cell phones came into being and have never had a complaint. I use the “Personal Hot Spot” feature for my internet connection without any additional charges and I see no disadvantages in the service.

T-Mobile has asked me if any of the people that we deal with would be interested
in unlimited Internet and unlimited streaming with no throttle down at a great price. So I did the research and so far every program has to be tied to a phone account with multiple phones.
So I asking the question if anyone would be interest in the Internet streaming program at a price of $89.95 per month with no phone program tied to it. If so please let me know so I will either
pursue the program for all you good people in the community or not. Thanks for your help on this program.

I have At&t and I installed a We-Boost (RV version) on the bus and it increased my coverage by two bars. An easy solution to getting better coverage wherever you go and whatever provider you may have.

I am a Tmobile customer (55+ plan) but the service is so bad in so many areas that rely on my AT&T truly unlimited hotspot @ $20/month (OK, plus a couple of bucks in taxes)! I believe the same plan is now available but for $30/month.
If the service was not so bad it might be of interest but it’s really bad. I get exactly zero service here along the beach up and down the Eastern side of Lake Michigan and I used to get excellent service when I was a Verizon customer.

A PC/NTCS data service program is definitely of interest to me, especially truly unlimited. As Bill pointed out, the concern is can you truly get the service through Tmobile using Verizon and AT&T towers. I’ve been told by friends using Tmobile that once they’re out of their home area, it sucks. Maybe this is a different setup.
If I had a for real unlimited data plan, Direct TV would be a distant memory. I would stream TV, same as I do at home.
Keep digging David, myself and probably others would be glad to give it a try. I would like to hear from Ronald, he has dealt with this stuff a lot.

Larry, kicked verizon & att out of my life 10 yrs ago. Been using Republic Wireless and well pleased. Plans start at $15/ mo. Just returned from South Western road trip. Never had issue coverage.

I have 4 people in the Michigan lake area on this new program testing it and they
are doing great with it. The new program is much higher speed to handle the streaming.

T-Mobile is not only using their towers but sprint Verizon and At&t. Everyone
I talk to seems be getting great reception since they went on the unlimited no buffer at anytime. With this program there is no contract so you pay 2 month up from and if it is not what you want send back the equipment and the billing stops.

This is a for real no buffer no tricle down or whatever you want to call it there is no contract just 2 months up front and pay as you go each month. Call me we should talk about it.
